car wont start after fresh build
even the crank was off 3 full chain lengths off the white dot... so it was in time still but the entire chain moved off all points 3 chain lengths. anyone ever heard of that?
That will SUCK if his Valves smacking the Pistons. Let's hope its not smacking cause if it is then He is SCREWED! My father n I did timing chain on his old car. He forgot to rotate his timing chain first, He just took timing chain without rotate his DAMN JAPS Car. LMAO! I know it's different than build. I really hope that He didn't get his Valves smacking up his Pistons. We will see what happen.....
ok just got off the phone with gm tech here that is also my tuner. He told me that the chain will be off per the gm service manuals and that even after you time them after certain amount of revs it will be off. If the chain is off the same amount on all gears then its still in time. I am still in time. So no interference.
2: I pulled the spark plugs and turned the car over by hand, there is no noise in the valve train at all and the chain although not on the markings are all within 3 links of the cog markings. So its not hitting.
3: 2.2 and 2.4 ecotech is interference, the DESTROKED 2.0 motor is non interference and my pistons are valve relieved.

did u replace your tensioner? i hope with the newer design? If u dont prime the motor first there is no oil pressure in the tensioner to keep pressure on the guide and just firing her up could jump timing
maybe it dose
your gm tech guy is wrong on the 2.1 it is an interference fit engine and the timing marks line back up you just have to rotate the engine over a **** load of times 30 some times try replacing the tensioner

powell, please elaborate, I have built many 4x4 suspesnions but being my first engine build I am a complete noob. what else should I have done.
mrb, i cant find my reference but if you guys look hard enough the info is out there on it being non interference. i have read it, I wasnt told it. Tensioner it is based on a thread i just read over at the lnf side of the forum. and based on vids of cars that sound like mine on youtube. zzp says dont replace the chain... I did.
part number 12608580
Ecotec Timing Chain Tensioner 12608580
Is this the revised tensioner?
my guides didnt snap because I never took the car over 900 rpm, my car idles at 900 with 80lb injectors and was too afraid to rev it until i was sure the sound was not something that would damage the car. seems like all signs point to this part

if you used the old style tensioner, the re-install procedure is long and involved and not plug and play.

PS: ZZP know a lot, and talking to them at length at the CED meet they commented on how good the chain is. But on high mileage SAABs I see the chain giving up. I have seen stretched chains on LNF. So in conclusion, in any engine build I automatically replace the entire front chain drive kit. And tell customers it is a mandatory item. Along with a new TOB for the clutch, new axle seals for the trans, new seal for the distribution block, etc. If the customer does not want, then I either wont do the job or they accept the job with zero warranty.
