part number 12608580

Ecotec Timing Chain Tensioner 12608580

Is this the revised tensioner?
lets assume that you timed the chain and sprockets correctly, and put the old style tensioner in and it did not get put in according to factory procedure, and that the chain is flailing around, and making all that noise.
Get the entire new kit, save the chain maybe as you put a new chain on.
pull the pass side wheel and inner fender, drop the engine down a bit off the pass side mount remove the drive belt and the crank damper and the front cover
Replace the guides, oilers, fasteners and crank sprocket and cam sprockets if you did not do that before, might as well change the chain (again) it is in the kit..
set it up correctly and reassemble.
This is THE ONLY WAY to be sure of a happy lifetime of engine use out of your new piece. IMHE

otherwise, its just a lottery waiting for the next part to break . good luck.

I just saw the video you said your car sounds like. My car is making the same noise. None of the guides seem broken or anything obviously wrong. I have pics if you wanna see it. I changed my tensioner about a month ago with the napa one. If you find out what the noise is, let me know

i bought the upgraded (ac delco) one from a dealer on amazon for 30 bucks, I am going to leave my ignition unplugged and fuel pump relay pulled and turn the car over 20 times, hoping this will get oil pressure in the tensioner before I start it.

It would be better to pull spark plugs out.
It's less stress on a freshly built engine and on your starter.
The last thing you wanna do is gall a bearing.

Yeah the plugs are pulled. I was also taking into account that the coils may still fire if plugged in. Dont want to brick them.

flat footing the pedal puts the car in clear flood mode and puts the injectors in a no fire condition because the computer thinks the engine is flooded

Like a beast! I FREAKING LOVE HAVING MY CAR BACK.

Replaced the tensioner with the gen 2. Took care of that chain slap. Also retimed the car just in case. Pulled the crank sensor and lined her up with 1 at tdc and exh/intake at their appropriate timing.

Problem solved.
