fifth fuel injector
fifth fuel injector
does any know of the fifth injector. it is located on the engine and the line to the throttle body is fuel not coolant. when does this one work. i know the older tuned port engines in the ta's had nione injectors eight for the engine and one for cold starts.
LOL
I know exactly what he is talking about, for all of you non 3rd gen F body owners, those cars, well to be precise 1985 thru 1987 F body TPI cars, used a ninth injector in the intake to enrich the mixture on cold start up. Later on, 87 to 92, it was removed and the ecm was tuned to compensate on its own.
To answer your question, I don't know what it is, I would doubt it is that tho....

I'm not sure if we have cold start injectors, or not. I know a lot of older cars have them though, and a lot of guys use them as a spare injector and use tuning software from Greddy/HKS, or other aftermarket tuners to control them seperately when extra fuel is needed. That however, is kind of a thing of the past since standalone EMS systems allow you to use such large aftermarket injectors, thus eliminating the need for extra injectors.
When I was lookin at it today when ya put it back on it looks like a vacuum hose going over to the fuel maybe to register signal by vacuum to add additional fuel at certain times. Looks odd for a vacuum hose since its made like a fuel line.

Your #2 is completely wrong. What you are refering to is called Direct Injection, which our cars do not have.

There is no Cold Start Injector in the LSJ (or any GM engine since the old TPI days)

I also know that some cars have coolant running through the TB in order to warm up quicker (so annoying, the VW guys used to bypass it to try and shave a couple degrees off the intake temps).
And yes, I'd also agre with the Evap line, no better way to get rid of fumes then to burn them!

The coolant line is to prevent the TB from locking up with ice in the winter..
