funny sound on idle with hood up
When parked on idle with the hood up (after driving it any amount of time), if I stand in front of the car, I don't hear the engine at all, because a funny noise from the s/c drowns it, and the s/c shakes a bit. It doesn't shake that much but it feels like something in the supercharger is not lubricated enough and the rotors are rubbing the insides of it...
I haven't been able to compare with another s/c'ed ecotec so I'd like to know if it's the same for you guys... are your s/cs completely silent at idle or do you hear that kind of noise too ?

This is a issue that has been noticed by everyone but GM. It's the coupler in the nose of the SC. (Intense actually sells an upgraded one) The holes wear and become elongated and it makes a rattle like a bag of marbles or something...but it goes away as soon as you rev it. It is more common on worn superchargers but mine was doing it after 15,000 kms. so that means its more likely poor tolerances than wear.
My issue is that it only does it at 10 pm...or on a sunday afternoon...but never when the dealer is open...and when i take it in it sounds perfect and they think i am being paranoid or somthing.

Honestly i am not sure, i don't think it can cause damage unless it got really really bad. I just don't like that the car is 6 months old and sounds like ass when sitting at a set of lights. It's embarassing. Also if this is something that is common on old worn superchargers then what is it going to sound like when our cars are old and worn?

Thats exactly what I THOUGHT it was!
BUT... When I installed my Intense Machined Snout, I also changed out to their coupler.
Thought I was good to go, but then yesterday the loose/rattle/knocking sound came back.
So its def. not the coupler. If its not that, then WTF is it though?
Its odd because I'm def. not describing the little clicks or normal blower noise the car makes. This is a VERY DISTINCT KNOCKING noise, as if something is loose and tapping together at idle. Then as soon as you apply the slightest bit of gas, it clears right up. I might have it at one redlight, drive to the next and its gone!!!
Its really starting to **** me off. I thought it was something in my head, but now after running it to 7k rpm I think it wouldve fell apart by now if something was loose. Then I thought it was the coupler but thats def. not it.
ANY insight would be great, I'll keep everyone posted as well.
That's also the way some of the Centrifugal Superchargers sound even after you first install them....sounds like their not even lubed, but no worries...i'm sure it won't be a drastic problem unless the sound gets overbearing...then like the other guy said...go to the dealer and say...WTF!!!!
This is wierd! Everyone is talking about a loud sound from the s/c, but my car (2950 mi) doesn't make a peep. Well there is a sound but I have to practically put my ear up to the s/c to hear it.

Is it possible the Intense Coupler was made to OEM spec which has holes that are too big?? This makes no sense.
I was worried it was the SC rotors knicking each other as they spin and that would send little particles of aluminum into the engine and over time screw the rings and score the cylinder walls...so i was hoping it is the coupler becuase that's not so serious.
It sounds like we have the same issue though...mine comes and goes from intersection to intersection...and some days it never does it at all...i might go 2 or 3 days and nothing...but then all of a sudden its there...loud and clear. Then i rev it a bit and it's gone.
My car was fine for the first 10,000-15,000kms or so...totaly quiet.

FINALLY, I've found someone who knows what I'm talking about. Everyone thinks we are talking about some of the other small standard noises. THIS isn't even close. Like you said it comes and goes, few revs or drive to the next light and its gone. Some days nothing at all. We def. have the same problem.
Let me know if you find anything out, I'll do the same.
