I had a similar noise, when the car was started cold then once it warmed up it went away, I brought it to the dealership and they said there was a leak in the exhaust manifold gasket! and when the car warmed up the metal expanded and closed the hole. I Had it replaced and the noise is gone. Im not sure if its the same problem just thought Id throw it out there.

Everything you have described sound like what happened to my car. Exhaust leak. For the longest timed I thought it was a belt. The gm tech thought it was a belt. But in the end it was an exhaust leak.

you would only experience belt slip under WOT. sounds to me like your saying you hear the noice only on a cold engine after startup, which i assume means you're hearing it at idle.

well now it does it every time i start the car almost... if i let it sit for 20-30 minutes and start it up the noise is there.. its getting louder and scaring me know. i held a pry bar up to my manifold and listening through the handle its loudest on the manifold.. sounds like a crazy idea but try it the prybar actually magnifies noise. but is 20-30 minutes long enough for the gasket to cool down and shrink???
