funny sounds thats not so funny
so i have noticed this funny sound when i fist start my car... sounds like pinging but its only when its cold. once the engine warms up it goes away. im using 5-w30 valvoline syntech. didnt bother me that much till today.. i changed my oil and have a buddy rev the engine ever so slighty till i could pin point the sound..... hears were it gets interesting, right by the timing cover at about 2-3k it sounds like rocks in the engine. but only between these rpms. my thought is timing chain guides idk please help any input... mods in my sig
I had a similar noise, when the car was started cold then once it warmed up it went away, I brought it to the dealership and they said there was a leak in the exhaust manifold gasket! and when the car warmed up the metal expanded and closed the hole. I Had it replaced and the noise is gone. Im not sure if its the same problem just thought Id throw it out there.
Everything you have described sound like what happened to my car. Exhaust leak. For the longest timed I thought it was a belt. The gm tech thought it was a belt. But in the end it was an exhaust leak.
you would only experience belt slip under WOT. sounds to me like your saying you hear the noice only on a cold engine after startup, which i assume means you're hearing it at idle.
well now it does it every time i start the car almost... if i let it sit for 20-30 minutes and start it up the noise is there.. its getting louder and scaring me know. i held a pry bar up to my manifold and listening through the handle its loudest on the manifold.. sounds like a crazy idea but try it the prybar actually magnifies noise. but is 20-30 minutes long enough for the gasket to cool down and shrink???
