GM Stage 1/2 Thread: Merged
Rejected Stage 2 just not worth it anymore
Hey guys I finally got my stage 2 in and Im canadian... I got dealer pricing and would be paying around 1 grand canadian installed. I started this thread to see if anyone located in Alberta Edmonton Canada, was interested in the stage 2 because I dont think I want it anymore. I have been reading redline forums and cobalt forums and from what I was reading on the redline forums the stage 2 wont even give you the full 40 hp to the wheels as stated.
I do not have intake or exhaust yet so I feel that spending my money on intake+ exhaust and possibly going stage 1 with an aftermarket pulley might be money better spent. I am very much wanting to keep my warranty intacted but from my dealers tone it seams like they dont even want to cover it under warranty.
I am sorry for this rant but GM you fucked up, you DIDNT educate the dealerships, you DIDNT educate your buyers, and overpriced a kit that could of made you a lot of money priced realistically.
P.S If anyone needs a stage 2 in my area pm me cause mine will be just sitting at the dealership!

I don't think they advertised 40 hp to the wheels, I think they said 40 hp flywheel.
people need to quit worrying about their warranty too. Just take it to a different dealer, they should all warranty it.

You know what I think is funny is obviously alot of people on here have never modified a car much IMO. Not all but a good percentage. All these complaints about pricing and no proof yet power increases is really annoying. Have any of you played with a DSM or other cars? Everybody wants something for nothing. Some crazy 100% power gain for under 500 dollars. What are you guys thinking? Pay to play. The rules are. Money + time + tuning = power which leaves you with 1.less mileage 2.possibly less reliability 3.possibility of limited warranty coverage. Even though it is covered, this is still going to be a tender spot for GM and the consumer.
If you want to go fast, buy yourself some american muscle, throw a big block on it, blow it with an 8-71 and use your balt for commuting.

DETROIT - GM Performance Parts is adding some extra juice to the already high-voltage 2.0L Ecotec-powered Chevrolet Cobalt Coupe SS Supercharged and Saturn ION Redline by introducing two supercharger kits that generate real power gain at the wheels. The Stage One and Stage Two performance upgrade kits provide an additional 31 and 36 hp respectively.
Straight from GM they say 31 with Stage 1 and 36 with Stage 2 to the wheels!
good enough for me,, stage 2 plus an intake, exhaust, some mounts and poly cotnrol arm bushiings, yer gold, upgrade the clutch, even better, get a flywheel if u want higher revs and better top end....its all about what some one wants outta there car, i want to be reliable and quick, but not too quick as to where i cant drive in certain conditions, to me im happy with the stages coming out and lookin forward to gettin my car in the 250-265, maybe a bit more, time has yet to tell.
1000 Canadian seems to be a pretty good price. I don't know of anyone who has gotten the kit installed for less than 800 american (approx what NJblue may have payed....~600 for kist and ~200 install). Hell i am paying 970 (630 for kit and 340 install) american total for mine, once i talked the dealer down to a set 4 hour install after they told me possibly 8 hours....
Some dealers just dont do their homework, and not much you can do. They'll learn eventually.
Our dealer experience has been going downhill. We first went through the hassel of finding out the appropriate billing time needed to install the kits. Their original quote was about 4.0 hours, adding up each individual part. We directed them to the PARTEC line and I believe they got the answer they were looking for.
After that was settled, it took them a while to get the kit installed. After they did, they took it for a drive and told us they heard a bad noise and needed to check on it.
Later they said, the main thing was that the belt had slipped off and gotten damaged, and they needed another one.
So we go in and investigate first hand. Seems that the tech didnt quite get the belt flush on all pulleys throughout the system, and one of them cut a single rib off, which damaged the idler pulley and hood carpet. He blames it on the new 3" pulley not being quite in-line, but i'm pretty sure he just overlooked it. Compounding the mistake by stripping out the modular pulley bolts trying to get a better alignment, and then using the wrong type of bolt+washer to hold it on instead. Also scratched the supercharger snout putting the pulley on multiple times.
So now we just need like all the parts of a Stage 1-2 kit to replace this mishap.
I think we got it under control now, but man, what a disaster this has turned out to be.
Be wary of your dealerships doing this for the first time!
edit - (I'm not going to name this dealership, because i think they do good work other than this little Stage2 issue.)

As for a choice of vino, I would suggest something full bodied and earthy, an Oak aged Cabrenet or a spicey Shiraz! Crow is kinda gamey.
It's all in good fun Fast,

By the way. You can buy an after market exhaust for $700+ dollars and only get about 5-10 WHP increase. Yet I dont see people throwing fits about that.
Stage 1 vs. Stage 2
With the kits now out and im sure quite a few have both stage 1 or stage 2. which is better. Is it better to go stage 1 and smaller pulley or stage 2 with smaller pulley? Which kit do u find to be better with those who already have them.
is there any point of buy stage 2 and getting a smaller pulley?

search for those who have compared these kits alreay out.
the stage 2 kit and running thread just talks about stage 2. I WANT TO COMPARE THE 2.
flame me if u want. but if i get 1 honest opinion about which one to get. then this post was worth it to me. if theres 20 posts about it. then thats fine. but i dont need u interrupting my post.

OK. My honest opinion is to get the stage 2. If you get the stage one, eventually you will want more power and end up getting the stage 2. From personal experience, the stage 2 is everything it's cracked up to be. Good luck!
