H/E in series vs. replacement

Can anyone give any insight on running an aftermarket H/E in series with the stock unit vs. yanking the stocker and just running the aftermarket? I can't see why leaving the factory one in can hurt, but people probably wouldn't do it for no reason. Any answers?

Id personally run both, that way you have more coolant in the system.

Your right.. the only problem with the coolant pump is that it stops working...

Its actually a strong pump.

Each has there pro's and cons

With both h/e inline there is obviously more fluid in the system and it takes longer to heat.
Although once you do heat up you are sucking in some of those engine temps due to the location of the stock unit.

With one front mounted there is not as much fluid in the system but the increased surface area for contact cooling is much better, and the stock unit being gone is not going to soak up the operating temps of the engine bay.

I personally ran both and option b and loved it.

Hope this helps point you in the right direction

I killed the stock one and just run a ZZP front mount. Personally like it better because the fluid cools down quicker then if I ran them in series.

I run just the CXR one because I personally thought the way LSJWannabe said about the two stock ones and thought that it might lose pressure?

Not really you would be surprised how well the stock pump actually works in those situations.

The system not bleeding itself properly, most people run with air in the system and it can cause it to fail easily.

according to the info i found on a cobra/lightning forum, the pump fails because the brushes are soft and wear out. the pump is better for use in an application were its not on all the time. its also only rated for around 1000 hours of use.

what if you put in an inline pump that could handle the heat of the coolant to help out the stock pump and have ease of mind?

Well, technically you could but it would be a little more complicated than just thowing in an inline pump. You would have to have two seperate outlets (one for each pump) then you would have to combine them somewhere. With a dual pass endplate you could run one pump to each inlet on the dual pass and the two flows would combine in the intercooler.

The IC and H/E system is closed with a single flow. If you just add an inline pump you can cause other problems. If the two pumps don't have the same flow rates you will end up hindering the flow instead of helping, not to mention one of the pumps will be working harder trying to flow faster than the other pump causing a back up of fluid between the two pumps.
