I am thinking that oem or arp it dont matter same goes for the gasket. seems to me you need to find the root cause for the head lifting, coz if u dont, its:" gonnahappenagain.com"

The main problem people are having with Cometic headgasket is improper preparation. Get your head resurfaced, scotchbrite the deck, and ensure it is all clean with brake cleaner. Then follow the headstuds instructions for install. Easy day.

Cometic headgasket and ARP or Golden Eagle headstuds.

the reason for the cometic headgaskets failing has nothing to do with the quality of the headgasket.

pics of said failure? the headgasket is multi-layer steel, just like the stocker. even when i had headstuds that stretched on the stock motor, the headgasket still held

likw i said its a guessing game... im not gonna sit hear and say anything about either because my block was'nt decked... so that could been the reason.

motor was i perfect running cond had 12,000 mi when i pulled the head to put in pistons didnt think i needed the block resurfaced, just the head, but it held for 1.5yr before i turned up the boost and it blew on 23-24psi and approx 400whp... held fine at 18psi and 370whp.

some are having luck with them some arent, i wish i could see more applications being pushed with the stock HG, so i know what to expect from it.

yeah, i would always recommend re-decking the block and then, like you said, roughing it up with a scotch-bright before putting the new gasket on. would that have prevented your mishap...? idk, but even though i recommend doing that, i didn't do mine when i installed my pistons in may. i didn't have the time/money at that time, and I was going to do a p&p head in july. never got around to it, but i am still running on the cometic with 20+psi on a tvs with no issues

Tennpenn is right (again)No substitute for following correct procedures....when I was a kid i put my motor together with so much dirt it blew up right away. I even lined up the ring gaps carefully so they were in line (doh) so thats how you learn I guess....if the block is straight cleaning it up is essential like you said, but if you tune it wrong, or lose an i/c pump or fuel pressure and / or get runaway detonation it will blow up no matter what gasket you have on it ....
