Japeatr's install pics of Powell Custom Fuel System

ok, well as most know Ive been having an issue with fuel starvation at higher loads/rpms as a result of 2 things. consumption of all the fuel in the fuel pump basket under a quick load up, and a fuel pump capacity straining to meet demands. These are two direct and independent issues that cant merely be solved by sticking a bigger pump in. even a dual in tank would drain the fuel pump basket dry on a 3rd gear punch

So after Bryan's visit to Texas i got serious about addressing both with one solution. Powell texted me back that he did in fact have a custom surge tank design to accomodate this additional capacity. in addition a Bosch 044 would be more than enough pump once the current arrangement of my DW300 pump was converted to lift pump duty only.

so i had him source me a Bosch 044 with custom Sytec bracket, custom Kinsler fuel filter, all custom AN6 lines with black fittings, and of course the surge tank.

ok so my setup was DW300 intank fuel pump, OTTP Return Style FUel System with Fuel Lab Regulator, OTTP fuel pump rewire, ID1000 injectors.

Powell worked on this setup for a month or so, txting me frequently to get an understanding of my setup and what fittings and routing were needed.

ok, so after getting this kit, I began removing the fuel tank filler hose, and evap canister.
from there i removed the two rear fuel tank strap bolts and mounted the custom surge tank in between the two straps.

i then mounted the Bosch 044 and ran the lines

after tightening all the lines i reinstalled the charcoal canister and rerouted the evap lines to make clearence. the fuel filler hose is slightly impinged due to surge tank placement.

on to wiring. i have hit a stop due to a decision. i was going to tap fuel pump voltage from the main distribution harness that is local to the fuel tank, but no i believe i will run power from the FP rewire kit as it has its own relay protection.
ill map all the wiring I have to run, as im doing a fair bit of it with the other mods im doing simulataneously as well and report back.

ok starting from the fuel pump assembly, both 5/16" return and 3/8" feed go to the surge tank. the surge tank feeds the bosch 044 inline. this flows thru the filter to the fuel rail on the engine. affter the injectors there is a adapter from the fuel rail to AN6 to my fuel lab regulator. after the regulator it returns to the back of the car to the surge tank.

im looking forward to tuning this car again now that i can feed the beast!

Do you have your regulator mounted to the rail or remote?

I am liking Japetrs fuel pressure regulator mounting. I may borrow his idea. Even though its a pita to run a return line its an okay deal. I think its time this winter to put in my independent remote clutch reservoir as well...and you know what? I had a brainstorm and I think I have come up with anew way of making a single pass, that may make life ssssssssooooo much easier and the package a lot cheaper. I am so glad I am supercharged lol

I like mounting it straight on the fuel rail. Some tweaks to that pesky bleeder line and it fits perfect. 90 on the bottom sends the return straight towards the back.

I like arms solution but the brake booster line would crash into it. If you extend the line out a bit to clear where there is space, then you have to support the unit. I have to play with that if I chose Arms route, it does simplfy things. I hate some of the double fittings I had to use on Japetrs set up, male to female, to join two male ends. sooooo many things to think about.

That's usmc's car, not mine. I didn't have any often on my phone or photobucket lol

They look like wotbox wires to me; download the ion/cobalt wotbox instructions and you'll get pin locations.
The ones the wotbox uses from PCM are tps and clutch.

looks good, Vaughn. It gives me things to look forward to. Our engine bays are such a wreck. I mean, they aren't a GTR or a 3000GT VR4 but geez..haha

I see no gain from this setup.

Y not run a 340lph intake pump.
Im on a 2.6tvs 80s e85 150 Shot and have yet to see a fuel pressure issue at 60 psi base. Until i went boom
AEM 340lph black pump

I believe this problem is inherent to the early model LSJ setup

And jolley, im willing to bet im moving more cfm than your setup was.

On 2.7 with ATI and 80s i had this issue.

On 2.6 with ATI and 1000s i had this issue.

Tried all sorts of fp settings with no change.

I think it is the design of the 05 canister

I just checked modesto's elevation in comparison to frisco texas

93 versus 772' wonder if that makes any difference?

Then again the deatchwerks could be anemic as far as actual versus rated flow rate but i still think it drinks the canister dry

I have a 07
With a 150 shot the car would blow the tires off at 70mph 4th gear like nothing.
Im sure my car demands more fuel Wen Im using the nos.

U know Wen u crank the fuel pressure up Ur pumps flow falls Alot.
