water has an infinite octane level.

zach. tuning is no different. only thing that changes is the afr and where peak power is made. you can run all the timing you want with a 50/50.

my personal mixture is more temperamental to changes in timing, but yields the most power. period.

no i will not tell you what that mix is. don't ask.

p.s. octane is the measurement of it's resistance to knock.

quick posty about octane

The octane rating is a measure of the resistance of gasoline and other fuels to autoignition in spark-ignition internal combustion engines. High-performance engines typically have higher compression ratios and are therefore more prone to engine knocking, so they require higher octane fuel. A lower-performance engine will not generally perform better with high-octane fuel, since the compression ratio is fixed by the engine design.

The octane number of a fuel is measured in a test engine, and is defined by comparison with the mixture of iso-octane and normal heptane which would have the same anti-knocking capacity as the fuel under test: the percentage, by volume, of iso-octane in that mixture is the octane number of the fuel. For example, gasoline with the same knocking characteristics as a mixture of 90% iso-octane and 10% heptane would have an octane rating of 90. [1] Because some fuels are more knock-resistant than iso-octane, the definition has been extended to allow for octane numbers higher than 100.

agree'd lol i can respect that.
basically in a nut shell ^ its harder to burn so the heat created from the compression doesn't ignite the air fuel mixture before the piston hits tdc and cause damage, correct?

For sure, and not to many people have the ***** to step up and try to answer it, even if they aren't always right. I just got into the tuning scene, but have been into the lsj engines for awhile now. I have learned enough while I have been on this forum I believe to start giving back all that I can. Minus a few of my own personal secrets, like windshield washer fluid turns your supercharger blue.

It's really not all that difficult from what I have seen. It just takes time to learn the basics, and then a lot of time to perfect things.

Yea same here I know a fairly decent amount about my car and cars in general, it's just stuff like this that I've only heard about a year or so ago and started seriously considering in the last few months that I have questions about. I'm never really afraid to ask stuff on here because it seems like most times I do people are really cool about it. Just gotta watch out for the db's who think that they're god's gift to us because they know more than someone else. The purpose of forums like these (to me) is to make friends, show off what you can do, and help people out.

X2. i mean yea i was in an auto tech program and did alot of work ove rhte 2 years and also worked at a garage for a summer or so but that stuff was all just repairs, i never really got a chance to grasp the fundementals of tuning though my teacher did do a good job explaining things which inturn makes it a little easier to understand what people tell me

yea, i feel you. I am buying hptuners tomorrow so I will get to learn a lot more over the next week. I am also going back out to tom's place aka wicked2005 in ohio to learn more tuning things, and to help install a s/c setup on a 2.4 and tune it. The more I learn, the more I will share.

I would really recommend you buy hptuners. Once I saw it, and watched tom tweak some things, it came to me A LOT quicker then it would have by reading. I don't know everything about the PE tables, and MAF frequencies etc, but some of it just can be SEEN and you understand it right off the bat.

hptuners is like roughly 450 or 500 dollars. Then i believe you have to unlock your car and or others if you are a "tooner" like wicked or area is.

edit: yes i know its spelled tuner, i was referring to his sig.

with hp tuners, you spend XX amount of money and you get credits for the car, or cars. I believe, don't quote me on this, hptuners is like 500 and then its 100 to unlock a car.

yea my sponsor sean/josh has hptuners at www.ottperformance.com for 499.99 and then the professional stuff for 650. Then it costs money to unlock the car.

yes sir. you can also unlock an entire type of car. For example tom has all of the cobalts unlocked and pays XXX per year.

Back on track with the meth discussion; the SRT guys were talking about the differences in HEET vs. true methanol. Heet is 97-98% methanol, so depending on your location it may be cheaper/easier to take a trip to Walmart and buy Heet and some distilled water and make your own mix...

it's always going to be cheaper to buy distilled water + methanol then it is to buy distilled water + heet. Do you realize how much heet is, and how much is in a bottle, and if you need 1/2 a gallon of it how much it would be.

HEET should only be used if they just want to through a bottle in every time they through windshield washer fluid to give a slight bump etc.
