I guess anything is possible. I do have like the highest mileage lsj in my area I'm pretty sure. 113,xxx. And then again, there's only a handful around. Huntington, WV is more of the mustang scene.

How did I not see this?

Well this definitely puts to rest my reading that the 2.0 is a non interference engine (read it somewhere during my engine build research). Definitely some interference here when out of timing, LOL. Especially if there was enough force to break the lash adjuster from the piston hitting the valve.

I have redone my timing due to a broken LSJ tensioner (replaced with the revised AC delco tensioner) and then a broken bolt. Both times I took my time and didn't rush. I also knew what I was doing before I started the car...

It grinders down and broke off into the head and some how melted? I have no clue. The machine shop was clueless also. Hopefully this head I just bought checks out.

well good luck, i had that sinking feeling the first time I burned up some valves on a bad tune and over zealous boost controller.

The head should be good to go. The only thing I would probably consider for peace of mind is decking the block. Iirc, that's standard procedure with a new head.

I dont think he needs to mill the block. Just the head. That is how I did it my first build. Sealed just fine until I blew the sleeve. When I built the engine and sleeved it then I had the block milled as well.

I had a cometic at .051 thickness custom made, looked at it and a new GM MLS next to each other, the quality isnt even close. The Germany made GM MLS headgasket is a much nicer piece. If you dont need the lower compression the stocker is hard to beat.
