My new cobalt is falling apart! HELP PLEASE!!

I'm new here and bought a 2006 cobalt ss/sc it has 103,xxx an is falling apart the first day I brought it home the clutch burnt up, I know how to drive and wasn't running hard, then my mechanic told me the clutch was aftermarket and the other owner never resurfaced the flywheel when he replaced it also the transmission linkage is bad the tranny was not stock and was used and it looks bad plus the radiator only had one of the 4 rubber boots on it, what should I do?? I've had the car at my place for 15 hours and 2 weeks in the shop??

That's a lot of problems to happen in a short time, as said before look into lemon laws or try returning to where you bought from due to undisclosed problems.

Sorry to hear that man. You should've brought it back to the dealer the moment that all happened and demanded your money back.

your "new" car is falling apart because the previous owner did not take care of it. As the new owner you need to start fixing everything that is broken on it. Things like this happen when you buy a used sport compact with over 100k miles on it.

Did you check this car out at all before you purchased it? Even if you are not mechanically inclined you could've taken a friend with you who is and gone over it with a fine toothed comb

Why did you buy a car without inspecting it or having someone else do it? Do you really trust the seller to be 100% honest about it? The better they make it look the more it sells for.

They tried to take advantage of you and you let them.

And how are people planning on using lemon laws on an abused almost 7 yr old car with over 100k miles on it?

I don't get why people always jump straight to lemon law. I don't think they realize that it only applies to cars bought brand new.

Caveat emptor. A used car does not have protection under the lemon law, and unless it was a GM certified used vehile from a GM dealer then your more or less SOL.

100% correct. No idea how you buy a car with a blown clutch and not know about it, but the only recourse now is to fix it or to sell it someone else. Either situation is a loss, unfortunately.

Granted this is in MA, but you can see what we have here, trying search lemon law and your state

"Used vehicles that are purchased in the Commonwealth come with express warranties. If the vehicle has has less than 40,000 miles, the express warranty is 90 days or 3,750 miles from date of purchase. If mileage is between 40,000-80,000, the warranty period is 60 days or 2,500 miles. If the mileage is between 80,000 miles and 125,000 miles, the express warranty is 30 days or 1,250 miles. If the consumer has the same defect three times during the express warranty or if the car is in the shop 10 cumulative business days (Monday-Friday) during this period, the consumer is entitled to a full repurchase, minus a mileage offset of $0.15 a mile."

Does the state of Mass consider a blown clutch on a car over 100k miles ( a wear item) a defect? It says expressed warranty, but it doesn't say what is or is not covered.

His problems are abuse/wear. They are his to deal with because its obvious he didn't bother to get the car inspected and may not have even driven it. Laws don't cover stupidity.

I would just eat it and spend the money to get everything fixed. No use in trying to get rid of it, and a lot of money can be saved doing the work yourself, especially for that clutch.

I hope the OP didn't pay a lot for the car.
If it has a few problems it's no big deal. Most of us would have spotted a bad clutch on the test drive and have it replaced, or have the price of a replacement discounted from the sale price.
At least now when the OP gets the stuff fixed up he will know that his car will be healthy.

Sorry to hear you are having problems but honestly what did you expect??? You bought a 6 year old sports car with over 100k. No one babies sports cars they just say they do. All you can do now is learn from this bad buy and fix up your SS and have fun.

I baby my G85 idk bout you haha and I'm at 106k. I'd def fix the bullshit tho goin on. These engines can exceed 240k miles as long as you change the oil on time. My car is a weekend warrior. IMO change the blower oil and couplers etcc as preventive maintenance. Check the heat exchanger pump because I bet that ******* prior owner had no clue it broke around 15k haha. I know mine did and 80% of us
