RP is good, I use the gear oil... however... isn't it not true synthetic? I believe it has a non-synthetic base whereas Mobil 1 really is fully synthetic? I could be wrong, but I was pretty sure this is the case. Mobil 1 is a good oil, and unless you want to start really spending ALOT for an oil change, you cant really beat the quality for the access & price you have with Mobil 1.

I use Mobil 1 5w-30 and will continue to do so.

This site had some interesting info on tests done on oil:

http://www.worldsbestoil.ca/dyno-test.php

This is their rating based on wear they saw during tests: (said test left RP at #10 with almost the most wear/particles & Mobil 1 with two viscositys at #6 & 7)

Final rating:

#1 AMSOIL
#2 BP Visco 5000
#3 Mobil 1
#4 Mobil 1

#5 Hi-Tec HTO
#6 Shell Helix Ultra
#7 Royal Purple
#8 Castrol R
#9 Castrol SLX
#10 Torco"

i was kicking around AMSOIL but i have seen a side by side compro in my garage of 2 ecotecs that were torn down at the same time. the one that was purpled out from the start looked WAY and i mean WAY cleaner internally. the other that used mobil 1 was just asbolutly filthy and every internal component had heat marks to proove it. i will never run anything mobil 1 in any vehicle i own ever again after seeing that.

you cant compareengine wear as a means to see oil quality. the way they are driven would be the predominant factor there, and even if both had the exact same driving conditions through theexact same locations, different tolerances would wear one engine more than another much more than the choice of oil would

my former boss is now working for petro canada. the reality of synthetics is they arent what you think they are. the term synthetic means man made, and people are led to believe that synthetic oils are all from man made chemicals. the reality of it is synthetic oils are still made from crude, however they are refined to a higher standard than conventional. there is more differences than just that, however synthetic isnt really "synthetic"
