P0171 and Boost level issues
P0171 and Boost level issues
Hey Guys,
So i am having some hiccups trying to find what is going on with my car here, below are the issues.
- P0171 Code shows up once a month or so and goes away quickly afterwards
- Vaccum at idle when warm is around -17
- Max boost as recorded by TORQUE has got to around 9, this is only at high RPM's
- At idle in neutral there is a split second hesitation when you rev it, you can hear a brief gasp for air.
- Idle is not super smooth, you can hear a little bit of a missfire on occasion. Sometimes when hot and after putting it in neutral coming up to a stop it drops to 500 rpms or so and struggles for a spilt second before going back to a normal idle.
Here is what i have done so far
- Changed plugs
- Discovered the PO put a AEM intake on it and it had a dust cover on the intake. Pulled that off and it seems to be slightly better, waiting on a new air filter to come in.
- Pulled the hoses for the Boost bypass valve and checked for if they will hold the valve, both the top and bottom appear to hold it just fine.
- Listened/looked for vaccum leaks (this is what it seems like to me) couldnt find anything. I did find one hose pinched a bit by the fuel rail and rectified it but that didnt seem to be the fix.
- Pulled the air filter that came with the AEM, you cant see much through it at all even with the dust shield off.
LMK if there is any other questions, hoping someone has a little more insight before i start changing out a ton of unnecessary parts

Not sure what kind of filter that is for sure but I assume it is reusable. If so follow the directions to complete cleaning the filter and re-oiling it if that is what it is made for. A restrictive air filter could easily cause a lower boost level Not sure where yours should be but from what I have seen it looks about 11-12psi. Now for the lean code I wonder if the car was ever tuned for the aftermarket AEM intake. I'd guess it wasn't and that is what is causing your issues.
