reflash?

My husband is offshore at the moment, so I cannot ask him. I have read alot of people mention reflash. What is it? What causes it? I am not car stupid. I grasp car stuff pretty well. I just do not believe that I have ever heard of this. I just have no clue what reflash is. I am just a little confused, or perhaps curious.

there are more variables involved, there are several reflashes that either fix problems like check engine lights or engine issues and others than enhance the performance of your car.

Who does this? Or what does this? Is it done by the dealer, or is that what the lap top program I read about last week is for? Does the car let you know that this needs to be performed ie. like a service engine soon light?

the dealer usually does the reflash, they use software called tec-2 i belive, and the car dosnst let you know, if you see a check engine light it can mean a lot of things that wont require a reflash.

Your car has an onboard computer... That onboard computer can need to have it's ROM flashed every so often to fix software (programming errors) in the computer.

The computer controls every aspect of the electrical system in the car. If it goes bad or dies, you have a dead car.

Doing a Reflash is pretty much like installing updates for windows. hehe. Umm, well ok it's MORE like doing a reflash of your desktop's motherboard chipset, but you get the point. Same principal.

A good example of this is if you had one of the cobalts with the funky gas gauge problem, that was actually a software error, and not a hardware error that required a reflash of the cobalt's onboard computer.
