Cool Saab and Cobalt

i found a 03 9-3 for really cheap. everything included even tranny. I have searched all the threads for saab on this site and a few others, will that motor go in a ss/sc? alot of threads state it is a turbo lsj basically. if i pull my lsj out and saw everything over will it work? ive done days of research. ive read that somebody used the block and also i think i read someone used the head. ive read that they are the same as far as if i switched all my parts over. does anyone know the real truth for sure before i go buy this? its to good to pass up if it will work somehow..

I would imagine about 90% of things will bolt up, but sensors and the ECM will be a nightmare . . .

Yes but there are sensors and all kinds of things in the motor that are made for a saab not a chevy.

With engine swaps on these newer cars... the electrical stuff is the major problem.

I can't help but agree.

How much will this swap cost (assuming everything goes smoothly and works)? How much power will it make? How much does a ZZP (or other) turbo kit cost? How much power will it make?

This. In the end it will be cheaper, and you will make more power.

not cheaper in the end when he has all the donor parts required(just needs to fab charge piping and ebay is the best place to get that) if he buys the 9-3 and u can get bigger turbos that will bolt directly to the sab turbo mani

makes sense. I guess it just depends on how cheap he can get the donor car/motor.

still not understanding fully....if the motors are the same what would the sensors have anything to do with it? im using the ss/sc wiring harness. all i would be doing is still that motor in the car which is the same but the wiring wouldnt work? why? if the motors are the same i couldn't take my sensors out my motor and put them in the exact spot in the other motor? the motor is 400 with the turbo on the back of it. i figured i would use the turbo for my cavalier and then build the saab motor and when its done just switch it in the place of my ss/sc motor. im not sounding like a know it all here i just dont understand fully. maybe im missing something simple when you guys say electrical stuff what do you mean? i looked at the motor it looks the same. what am i missing?

Saab 9-3 engine block is exactly the same as the LSJ engine. (That's where GM got the parts from...)

Swap the manifolds, bolt-ons and sensors (+ cam sensor housing) over to the Saab and you have an LSJ.

What are you looking to gain from this? Is your motor bad? Are you planning to run the Saab turbo setup?

its the same long block...accessories are not the same....remember the LSJ is just a LK9 w/a blower, when GM was looking at engine, they decided on the Lk9 since it was already being put into production in 03, forged crank and rods made it so they wouldnt have to make any major changes to the long block. only the accessories bolted to it....
