i'm gonna leave it for now, it should keep the temps more stable with the dual intercooling. if not, i'll put a bigger fmic on and get a vulcan manifold or something
The temps of simply just a air-air intercooler will do just fine for you. I was thinking about dual cooling when I went turbo as well, but decided to use a different manifold and bought a 30 dollar ebay intercooler. My cruising temps are usually 10-12 degrees over ambient. And under a pull they either go down or stay the same. The nice 50 degree nights a 4th gear wot pull the temps don't even move above 60. If you think about it the water won't cool it anymore it will be the same temp as the outside air. Maybe 1-2 degrees but is it really worth it?

I guess it's whatever you like

i got off work a few hours ago, and just spent the past hour copying the tune and reconfiguring his pcm to a stock tune. Jannetty wanted $500 for the tune file, so i figured i'd just rape his pcm for it and use up a couple of hpt credits, then i could also save him money from the dealer by reflashing his back to stock. it saved all of us a bunch of trouble

it'll probably be 2 weeks before this is completed because there needs to be some modifications on the exhaust components and i'm not sure how backed up my machinist is right now.

after the motor is built who knows what will go on it, for now though i have to get the car running and out of the garage so i can start the annual motorcycle engine rebuild lol

this will put down plenty of power though, so i'm not too concerned

zzp downpipe came in. going to have to extend the surface of the flange on the turbo elbow and machine it down to seal up good with the downpipe since it's bigger.

also going to get the manifold ported to match up to my ported head, not going to port the entire thing, just remove the edges so the air steps down smoothly instead of hitting the edge of the flange.

on a side note, has anyone ever wrapped a cast manifold? would it hold in too much heat and crack it? i've always had tubular before, never a cast.

good looking build so far. cant wait to see the finished product

btw, as far as the tvs vs turbo... there comes a point where there is too much power for a fwd...

for the tune, i'm not sure why they wanted so much. he probably thought i didn't know much about the stuff, but hell a zero tune on a standalone aem ems is only $700 with about 3-4 hours of dyno time by top notch people.

i'm just happy shutzero shipped his pcm to me so i could copy all the tables. once everything is up and running, i'll share the tune.

as for the "too much power for a fwd" yeah the limit i think is about 300whp, but this car only gets driven maybe 500 miles per year and i want to lay a set of patches on the road at 70mph for absolutely no reason but my own entertainment.

You should check out the turbo cams by comp, you wanna talk about trq!!!! they give us a 2200-7000 rpm power band instead of 3500-6300 like stock cams.

I just ordered them recently and they will be up and running in a week. (heads being P&P) I'll have spool results then. on the ecotec forums guys are reporting close to lnf spool times with these cams. the lift isnt too crazy either stock lifters are OK, springs ARE required.

If you wanted Ray bates could get them for you as well, but comp has free shipping on their on-line orders and it came out cheaper that way. If wanted to over build it Ray sells solid lifters for about $6 ea.

yeah keep me updated on that i may do it, i'd really like to hit about a 3500 spool, think they said this one does right over 4000. hopefully with the exhaust work i'm doing it'll go down a bit and on the new motor it should be much lower cause of the head work

let's trade files, maybe mine has some settings on there or tables that would work for you better or vice versa. this one is setup for 60's so just leave those settings alone

short update... i don't have time to mess with the install, have to go to DC to lobby senate for a week, surgery for a week and training for a week, on top of all the forest fires taking up my weekends. called a local shop that does alot of custom turbo stuff for us and gonna drop the car off to have it installed. estimate @ $40/hour (gave us a good discount on that). then he'll throw it on the dyno and do some logs for me.

had to drop the turbo elbow off at the machinist, he's going to work a bead of some kind of nickel around the edges to flare it out large enough to seal well with the zzp downpipe. on a side note, zzp started putting their flanges on a belt sander to level them off now after welding, so they were straight yay
