Supertech Springs

Are the Supertech 78 lb valvesprings a larger diameter requiring machining on the head for the spring seat? If so, is there a reason why they are recommended quite a bit more often than Patriot springs which cost much less?

im pretty sure they have a higher spring rate/presure@lift, and their reliability rates are great. I for some reason dont associate patriot with reliability...
Its like Eibach compared to SSC in my book

After digging around a bit, it seems that the Supertech spring OD is small enough to run without machining the pocket. That would be an obvious advantage since you can install them without removing the head.

Thanks.

as far as i know, none of the aftermarket springs for us require any machining...just FYI
The only machining ive seen done is CnC jobs or larger than stock valves

I called Patriot the other day and they told me that the pocket had to be machined larger to run their springs. Bates also said they need to machine for theirs.

Ahh, so the inner spring sits above the factory seal? That's a nice design, well thought out for saving people time.
