I have no idea what the techs make for warranty work, however I know that our local chevy dealers' warranty labor rate is $65.56hr. Like I said, I have no idea what percentage of that actually goes to the tech.

...compared to non-warranty shop rate of around 90 bux/hr.

You do realize that varies by location right? Normal shop rate here is $72hr. at the local chevrolet dealer. Go to Pitts. and those numbers are higher. Go over to Ohio, and the numbers are different.

Lets say a dealership has a chevrolet, and ford dealer (Morrow's Beaver Falls, PA). Labor rates for warranty, and regular labor rates are different between the both of them. They aren't a constant across the board price.....

I have yet to see an labor rate of $90hr. in this area. I cover a lot of land, servicing a lot of dealers. From Pitts. to Erie, to Youngstown, to Beaver Falls, etc. None of them have a labor rate of $90hr.

Labor rates are somewhat meaningless when it comes to warranty work.

The last I knew, GM has a book that approximates the time needed to R&R certain parts of the car. If the book says it takes 2 hrs to change an alt. and it takes the tech 1 hr, he gets paid 2 hrs. If it takes 3 hrs he gets paid 2 hrs.

If it takes 1 hr to remove the air cleaner, supercharger and powersteering pump, then two hrs. to replace the alt, he only gets paid for the alt. R&R (2 hrs).

If it takes 5 hrs to find out the real problem is the plug going to the alt. and the book says 15 minutes to replace that plug, he gets paid 15 minutes.

Again, this is based on the way it was 12 yrs ago when I worked at a Chevy dealer.

It is called flag time, and there is a labor book that tells you how many hours a job takes. Private shops use it too, to due estimates for labor and some pay there techs by it. I used to work at a chevy dealer in Texas, and I belive warranty work for dealers pay less flag hours than normal work.

before i did my exhaust or my intake i called a dealer and asked, i never gave my name and i called an out of town dealer, but they told me that if i brought it to them with the intake and exhaust, if the MAF was fried they wouldnt cover it because of the intake, if my cat goes they said they wouldnt cover because of my 3 inch exhaust, but one of my buddies who is a manager at the dealer that i bought the car from knows about my nitrous, hell he was one of the 1st people to spray it, now my clutch is going, i was going to buy an aftermarket unit but he told me to bring it in and he will get it covered, so guess what im taking the hand out! i also had a friend with an 05 mustang GT he strapped on a full exhaust, headers, intake, and a 175 shot, we where out racing and he blew it up, took it to his garage demoded it, dealership fixed it under warrenty, and they removed the old motor in 2 pieces!

Lol What's with you idiots claiming he's running stage 4 haha. I've been friends with him for a while now and I have a bunch of others around New hampshire in my car club and I know EVERYONE of them does NOT have intense stage kits. None of us are running Meth injection either lol. I don't see why people assume stuff and say it's fact.

Gm has NO proof he did anything. They say they have his car photo at the track lol.. It's a side shot of a black cobalt and a wing, wearing a helmet. That's a joke and a half there's atleast 6 Black Cobalt SS/SC's in the area. And those are only the ones that are in my club or I talked to. The warranty is included in the price when they price these cars, so technically you already paid for them to fix parts on your car, they just don't want to so they keep a higher profit margin. I've been a civic driver for a while, and while I like the Cobalt and all, but a car that's advertised to be a SPORTcompact should be expected that people are going to play with these cars. It's like advertising the best tasting hot dog BUT if you eat it.. you'll probably die. Oh btw I had my civic with 300k miles on it, and beat the **** out of it, and still was 90% bone stock, all I had to replace in owning it for 50k+ was the headgasket. I'll probably go back to my civic if this thing just junks lol.

New age cars plain in simple are designed to fail, and are made as cheap as possible.... so they break. Even if you go and spend 60k on your vehicle, doesn't mean they spent the time to use stronger parts.

Also Keith, Good luck, even though I'll see you later today anyway Lol

LOL

Because he said so right here

https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/2-0l-lsj-performance-tech-47/what-should-we-install-33904/

LOL

So he is a liar. He is either lying to us. Or the dealers. LOL. either way. He's lying somewhere. lolomg. Therefore, they care train has passed.

Oh. And in said post. He admits that the intense stage 4 cracked his piston.

Edit: spelling

It's people like you and your friend who make it harder on the rest of us to get our warranty work done! let me tell you one thing if you're runnign NOS you can tell when you pull that motor apart that you ran NOS. there's no doubt if the tech knew his ass from a hole in the groung he knewwhat cooked that motor and just never said anything. if one of the reps from ford or GM cam out to look at your car or his car and saw the pistons they definately would have known and said take a hike buddy. OK moving on...

have you read the posts below? this whole rant could have been avoided and suddenly made me remember the principal in Happy Gilmore during the debate..."at no time during your incoherent mumbling did you even come close to giving an answer. no points are awarded to you, we are all dumber for having listened to you and may god have mercy on your soul."

Oh. In case the dealership really doesnt have a picture of his car at the track. Here is one for them

And here is him bragging about racing an STI with a burnt vavle..

the video of the sti and black cobalt on the track thats my car... ive raced 2 sti's on the highway earlyer that day .. one was an 06 and one was the older model year ... i ate both of them.... after the track that night i raced an evo that was running 12.7 earlyer that night at the track... on the highway i had a half a car length on him before i had engine problems bad ones i wish my car was back from the dealer... but i would love to show ur sti what cobalts are capable of! best of yet 13.607 @102.5 with a burnt clutch not to bad and bunch of tire spin and wheel hope... ive also raced a turbo sentra that runs 11.7 at the track ... de tuned the night i raced him on 6 psi 4 car lengths ... he was very very upset that a cobalt beat him.. he didnt know my car was running with one exhaust valve completely burnt......

Exactly, but not only that. you arent paying for a warranty when you buy a car, included in your msrp is the cost to repairs the last guys car. and the guy before. and so on.
so when someone screws up their car by doing something they shouldnt have, or rather should have fixed on their own, but instead takes it to the dealer to try and get them to pay for it, we all pay for it. (dont read into that, i am generalizing and am not making a comment about this topic starters car since i dont know the true story).
if my nitrous blows out my intake, or sends a rod through the block, i'll pay for it. you break it, you fix it. dont make the rest of us pay for your bad decisions.

also, do you have any idea why Dodge discontinued the SRT-4? any guesses?
i'd guess it was not because it was a bad car, but that those who bought it didnt take care of it and tore it up.

Because they discontinued the Neon. Due to it not meeting new crash test ratings. Replaced it with something not cute.

dude he's running quite a few signifigant mods to his STOCK motor. don't act like he's innocent in this. why would you expect the dealership to honor it's warranty if you go out and buy something and put it on your car and it causes something to break? WOW think about it logically!

And thats the problem with posts like this. Someone comes along and only reads the first few posts. GM is trashed. Our cars suck. A lot more people then just cobalt people are readying this too.

He admitted to having stage 4 like five million times on this site. He admitted to switching it back to stock before taking it in for service. He had holes burnt in the pistons, and a cracked ring land. This wouldn't occur stock...

THIS THREAD NEEDS CLOSED/LOCKED. Its getting beaten to death. We have 8 pages of useless rambling about stupid ****, where most of the individuals who post have no idea of how a dealership works, or how warranty works either. Hell, they don't even know how GM works, or that a dealership is a franchise of GM....

The point in the thread has been made a million times now, its needs LOCKED.

Why do you guys lock everything?

If you dont like whats being posted, ignore it. Let the morons talk and think what they wanna think. Its not like either one of you guys are right, so there really is no clear cut answer.

Be adults about stuff and stop locking threads and banning people just for saying whats on thier minds.
