It sat for multiple months. A few small pieces of debris could cause that. If it was a few score marks I could understand but there are literally 50 or more. Where did 50 score marks come from if u said there were only a few when you got it. Its over half the cylinder wall all the way up and down

Uhhhhh actually it's all at the top. Theres some light scoring down the rest but ofcourse thats going to happen as the top of the cylinder gets worse.

What caused the scoring to get worse billy? Friction! I could hone that cylinder and hone out most of those scratches having it just as I got it from you. They aren't deep. You can't seem to wrap your head around it's only on one cylinder and only on the exhaust side. There. Was. No. Contamination.

I will put pics of the entire motor when I get a chance. Just posting that one pic you keep going back on is pointless.

I knew this thread would not end well based on the first 5 words of the first post.

Sounds like both parties have some skin in the problem. More importantly, get this engine fixed so this build can reach it's full potential.

Ill agree with you on that. When I received the motor and saw the light scoring the hone wouldnt take out I should have disassembled the motor and resleeved it. At that point I had blown my budget so just went on hope that Billy's machinst was right and it wouldn't cause a problem. I'm not mad that I got cylinder damage on the one. I knew the risk and chance I was taking. If I had known about the damage to the cylinders though I would have never bought the motor in the first place. The motor was actually very clean when i got it. But the cylinder issue is seperate of the motor getting tight in the bottom end. But you're right, this motor is going to get fixed properly this time and used to its full potential

1 is actually damaged from the light scoring. The other one isn't.

I'm betting the lower end bearing housing may have been machined so they had looser clearances? Very interesting, makes me **** bricks though

I have a few questions!!!

Why would you reuse old sleeves on a new build? I understand that you can, but depending how how many miles are on them, were they ever guaged? Like with a dial bore guage? Where the pistons sized? With the thermal expansion, if you didnt have the proer piston to wall clearances, that could cause scoring, Or if there is to much, sand/dirt can get in between the wall and piston, like sit on top of the rings.

And how was the motor stored? was it wrapped? If it sat without a head, and wasnt wrapped in srink wrap, Your kinda wrong, there is a reason why most shops wrap when while there sitting or shipped.

Iam not on either side, but reading thru here i had to ask

I can't answer any motor build questions but I will say when I got the motor it was very clean. Even in the cylinders there was zero debris or dirt so I would say it was stored properly.

Sleeves were checked with a dial bore gauge and were fine. Motor was assembled lubed and wrapped in a brand new garbage back. Bag was taken off 1 time to take pics for bluelightnig.

I'll never sell a motor without a head bolted on again though. I would bet my life there was some contaminate sitting on the piston and wrecked the cylinder wall
