gm performance parts on an ls 2.2...

i want to go faster, however i don't want to void my warranty. so i was looking at the gm upgrades (no matter how expensive, i like my warranty)

im about as uneducated about engines as your typical gf/ wife, so i have a few quick questions.

i have the 2007 2.2 engine, WITH an AUTO tranny. keep that in mind i have no idea if a stick is basically required to make this upgrades worth it.

http://www.gmgoodwrench.com/accessor...84187488874146
will that work on my motor?
and also is it worth the $$?

-and-

http://www.gmgoodwrench.com/accessor...84187488874146
will that work with my motor?
(i know its worth the $$) -but- will that work on the LS (not supercharged) and will the auto tranny make that upgrade useless.

thanks ahead

if i asked something really dumb, or said something silly, please laugh at my expense... i can take a joke, esp. considering i know nothing about this hah

First off, bolt-ons will help regardless of the type of transmission. Secondly, that stage kit is only for the supercharged cobalt.

Also, look into getting one of the GM performance exhausts. I have the touring exhaust, and its great!

Oh yeah, welcome to the site kovalt!

(if the links work) i would buy the touring exhaust system, not the performance one, correct?

^^^Those will work just fine.

They are both "performance" exhausts. One is the touring, the other is the sport. It is just a matter of which exhaust tone you like. Either will give you the same gains; I believe the only difference between the two is the resonator.

The GMPP parts do not affect your warranty and are themselves warranted - this is stated on the back of the '07 GM accessories book available at your local dealer! Here is a site that supports cobaltss.net and provides super deals for us Cobalt owners:

http://www.crateenginedepot.com/stor...pDoAGQqFmsfUAX

Purchase away and enjoy the freed-up horses

thanks for all the feedback

now, which upgrade: 1.) air intake or 2.) exhaust, should i save for first? (not like there has to be an order for them to work properly, just, which one would you do first on a limited budget)

IMO the largest single gain is freeing up the exhaust -- remember, bolt ons free up HP -- they don't make HP. Get the exhaust out first and then the engine can use more intake air.

That is a list of available parts for your car. You have an 07, so some of that stuff won't work on your car.

I agree with doing the exhaust first. There are three parts, header, downpipe, and cat-back. While any one part will offer improvement, all three must be done to truely provide a fully free flowing exhaust. That should get you started.

correction you can get the stage one on an ls but its not much its just the injectors but you have to run premium cuz the injectors will allow too much flow and your car wont run right but other than that its bolt ons and there is not much that gm offers for an 07 cuz i have one too and i tried everything with those guys

Okay, completely ignore everything in that post. Just so absolutely wrong about everything.

uuh yeh. dont babble unless you know what youre babbling about.

the I/H/E combo would be your best bet. there will be a noticeable difference in performance but it wont be like boosting. good luck

k, so here's a dumb question. I've been out of the loop for a while: does anyone know if GMPP has considered making cams for the LSJ? I'm assuming from the post above that they have them for the 2.2--sure would love some in my 2.0

No GMPP cams for any Cobalt engine -- unless you revert to some sort of aftermarket engine system.

The 2.2 cams listed in the GM accessories catalog will not work with our 2.2 computers.

The GMPP catalog does have streetable performance cams for 2006 and earlier L61's, but as described, they would need a tune. 2007 L61's have a different cam profile. LSJ's and 2006 L61's actually have the exact same cam profile, but are timed slightly different for the forced induction. Sooo, for an L61 going forced induction, the adjustable cam gears come in most handy. Sorry, nothing for the LSJ. Not even Comp has any (even though they say they do, which is wrong).
