Is there really any rhyme or reason to this, or does it not make that much of a difference? I change my oil and filter religiously, so oil longevity isn't really at issue. I just want to help make sure my engine lasts...
Synthetic works just fine in many different engines. Pushrod or not... and even rotaries.

I've been using Mobil 1 in my 3100 pushrod V6 for the past 70k miles without any problems or oil burning. The only reason I lose 1/2 qt between 5k mile changes is my front crank seal is leaking.

Don't bother using synthetic if you change your oil every 3/3k. Waste of money. If you're using synth and your engine is in good running condition with no coolant leaks etc etc, you can push an oil change to 7k easy.

www.bobistheoilguy.com <- Steep learning curve but more information and educated people obsessed with oil then you could imagine.

A Canadian dealership will charge you $100 (Can) for this. Bring your own Mobil 1 and use their filter. Change cost at GM dealer is around $30 total plus the Mobil 1 you bring.

Right now Canadian Tire has Mobil 1 4.4L plus 1L bonus for $30.

i just want to give the people here a heads up and let you in on a little secret. Wal-Mart has the cheapest oil. for 5 quarts of mobile 1 syntheic oil was only 20.17. fram filter 7.47 which makes it under 30 dollars to change your own oil. I know i used to go to autozone and get my oil there but i was paying just under 40 dollars for everthing like oil and filter. So enjoy

I changed mine, with Mobil 1, and the AC Delco filter! Has worked great, gas milage increased over the factory oil, and is much smoother!

Be careful when taking it to the dealership. I took my SS/SC in to have the oil changed and I took in my own oil (cheaper). When they finished I checked the oil before I left and sure enough they only put 5 qts in when it requires 6. They tried to tell me I only brought 5 qts and that it only took 5. After a long dispute they put in the 6th qt. and gave me a coupon for a free oil change which I will NOT be using.

castrol=higher oil pressure and something like 2hp gain over mobil 1
mobil 1=super protection, easy cold start and great overal performance
torco=high pressure oil but a little bit less than castrol
motul=low pressure oil good for forced induction

I personally used a K&N in my Cavaliers... as of this point, i don't think K&N makes an oil filter for the 2.2L Ecotec (I might be wrong). Where I used to work (Bond Auto-Burlington VT) we used to recommend Wix or Wix R-filters... guy i worked with used them on his M3 and he was making some serious power with it as well as driving 200 miles a day!

I use a K&N for my air filter and a Napa or Delco filter for the oil (advantages of having a dad that works for Napa and a brother who works at a Chevy dealership)

Oh and for oil, I went the el cheapo route since I plan on trading in a year or so and run nothing bu valvoline 10W30/10W40...

Im surprised nobody on here has listed Bosch fliters. I run Mobil 1 and a bosch filter all the way baby. And you can definitly notice a difference in starts, idleing smoother ect with synthetic over regular motor oil...
