no you can remove the system completely or leave it in...there is no "replacing with any that I choose" and the only way to get it removed is to have someone flash the computer and remove the codes and then your gonna do the wrenchwork to remove everything else. And to do that you either need a friend at a dealership or techII or have the program yourself...

Right, my tech here at the dealership said he would remove the codes and software for me. I guess what i meant was would I be able to put a header on like the pacesetter? So I can take the system completely out then. Thanks avenger.

be careful with pacesetter...from what I understand you have to modify the header a little bit to make it fit.... search some of the threads to be sure...

SO....I have my repair manuals now and I will be attempting to remove the sai system this weekend using my direct grounding/5v battery method....what this will do is allow someone to ground the pump power directly to the fram and ground the air solenoid valve directly to the frame and allows them to activate and deactivate according to the PCM just like normal and allow it to return a 5v signal from the reference wire just like it was developing air pressure. There are a ton of loopholes but this should be a simple enough test, should it work, I will publish what I did and how to do it here, it'll be cheaper than the $500 LS2 tuning program and still allow us performance parts and removal of the SAI system...

No. It's a emmisions package option for either auto or manuals. Its for California and New York emmision laws.

x2

I have SAI on my car and it's a 5-speed. I also live near NY so my car probably came off the same truck or something as other Balts going into NY.

i dont know if it's my location or what; but i have an 07 with no SAI.....well; i say no sai; it doesn't have the extra air breather tube coming from the intake box....anyone else like this ? is it just a cali + NY emmissions thing ?

real question: if i dont have the breather then i dont have the SAI which means i dont have to go get program removed to install CAI or headers correct ?

Why do you think that?

SAI is an emmisions option. So the standard car doesn't have it. It's only on cars where that dealer specifically ordered the car with it, which in most cases is in states that have the emmisions laws that require it, like NY and CA.

SAI is a standard emissions package that comes with some cars sold in NY and CA subject to CARB requirements.....although these cars are now sold all over the USA.......

CAI is a new intake that consists of a metal tube and a larger air filter for smoother and more efficient air pull/flow.

The question is if your car is SAI or not? depends...do you have 2 tubes coming off your filter box top or not? a big one AND a small one means yes, a BIG one only means no.

Is your CAI? not unless you've dropped between 30$ and 230$ for a Cold Air Intake for your car.....

no thats your CAM Cover breather hole....

If your airbox has that smaller tube as well as the bigger tube, then you have SAI, if you have only the BIGger tube, then you don't have it.....

What are the pros and cons between the long and short CAI and why is the gmpp not so good?

Correct, no SAI. A "long" intake is a CAI, meaning cold air intake. A "short" is a SRI, or short ram intake. That's the difference. The GMPP is an SRI, and some people don't like it because it takes intake air from the engine compartment. But that actually isn't true. It in fact is a CAI because it gets its air supplied to the filter box from inside the fender. Kind of a hybrid design so to speak.
