LAP blown up.
not sure if this is the right spot for this, if not plz move or let me know where to go lol.
I have a chance to buy a 2009 Pontiac G5 with 85k km and a auto trans on it but the motor is gone.
new motor cost to much to make the car worth buying for a second vehicle.
but I also buy cars from wright of auctions and can buy a 2008 cobalt with a L61 and auto. for dirt cheap. they go for $100-300 .
has anyone swapped in a L61 into a LAP car before? I know the both use the same ecm, and I would have all the harness's from the L61 car, do you think I could just drop out the 2009 power train and install the 2008 powertrain and swap the wiring ?
thanks

The motors are quite a bit different. Swapping would require a good bit of "custom" work. While it can be done with the right knowledge, I dont think a person with average mechanical skills can get the job done.
With that being said, just look for a LAP motor. I saw some before for around $500.

as for the swap, I understand the motor it self is different( well the head is the bottom end is about the same as a L61)
but im talking swapping everything from the L61 car, motor trans and wiring , to the LAP car. I was hoping someone on here had done a swap for some reason , be it performance or like me, being a cheap ass lol
I would like to just swap motors but im having trouble finding one in my area, and last time I shipped a motor it was half the cost of the motor lol.
I don't even know if I the guy wants to sell the blown up car yet, said he does but I have to check leans and what not out and then find out what he thinks the car is worth.

only if the head was ok, by the sound of it, im going to guess its not.
I did some looking and it seems all the connections to the fuse block under hood are the same. but I may have to move some pins around.
I work at a gm dealer so its not hard to find that info.
im thinking it will work, if I can't find a motor im prob going to go with the swap. ill post up results if I do.
thanks

I mean if you pulled the motor, trans, ECU, whole wiring harness, BCM, and any body harnesses, it could be done. I have never do anything that technical but it seems like a lot.
But if you have the and can get an L61 for a couple hundred bucks, it would be awesome.
VIN and ECU will never match but if it's a junker who cares?

as for the body side of the harness, I don't think it would need to be change, It looks to be the same out to the fuse block,
I have done a couple half-ton duramax swap's and everything in the truck stayed the same, just the under hood harness and the fuse block was changed.
only thing I had to add was the trans data line as the half-ton never had one.
