LE5 gone SC!

Big thanks to Pat with the parts and the knowledge on this swap. Took us about 12 hours of casual work to get everything running safely.

I spent all day today pulling wire insulation and making everything look nice and clean. I took quite a few pictures so here we go!

Wires everywhere!

Before

After

I'm running pretty rich, and I may have a boost leak I need to chase down. Also some of the insulation I installed today has already began melting from the heat of the header. I may need to fab some sort of heat shield to protect everything.

Time to get this tune dialed in!

Looks like the factory harness. The intake switched sides so it looks like he put in a big maf extension.

Maybe im wrong, lol thats what it looks like to me.

We took the maf harness from passenger side to driver side. That took forever to unwrap all the insulation and electrical tape.

I rewraped it all neatly so that's why it looks different

Try to avoid running any wiring over the exhaust side of the engine bay

I didn't run any new wire over the exhaust side, I pulled the maf plug and wires out of the harness with spark plug wires. I then moved it to the driver side near the fuse box. Less wires over the exhaust side. It still gets really hot back there though. I need to come up with a solution to heat coming up from behind the engine.

Anyone have any suggestions or ideas? I was thinking of fabing together an aluminum plate that mounted back there with a few bolts or screws. I want something that will block the heat and then dissipate it quickly.

Nice build.
Question: whats the reason for mounting the throttlebody like that? Mine and all the other build have it positioned differently. I think mine is rotated so the plug is on the bottom.
Another thing, how much space did you have with the AC line that passes in front of the intake manifold?
I used the LSJ one because I did not see it working when I did mine.

Also, you can take that middle piece out from your oil filler cap. its only there to raise it above the engine cover.

I didn't know thats not how it is supposed to be mounted, that's just what we did lol. If it's different, that might be a good idea for me to change it.

The ac line is resting against the intake mani I believe, I'd have to look to be sure.

I'll be taking that middle cap off asap now!

What should my vac be at idle? I'm running at around 19 inches at idle, warmed up.

19 in/mg of vac sounds good. That's what mine does.
Do you know how much boost you're getting?

According to the boost gauge, mechanical gauge by the way, I haven't gotten over 5 psi yet. The tune I have is set to 9 psi, but I haven't gotten over 5 like I said.

If I'm holding good vac, then boost must be fine right?

I noticed after I made my first post lol. I'm hoping it gets moved.

Mine gets roughly 10 psi of boost.
That's on the stock pulley. Try and find out if there's a boost leak somewhere.
You can try and pinpoint it by spraying brake cleaner around the seals. If you hear the engine stutter, you know it's sucking in air there.
Also make sure your hose to the boost gauge is clamped down tight.

I'm hoping it's just the vac line to the gauge. If not, then I'm missing out in 4psi somewhere lol. I'll have to sit down and hunt this potential leak down.

If any brake cleaner is pulled into the engine, will anything bad happen? I know it would be just a small amount, but just curious before I try it.

It's a flammable liquid, just like gasoline. It won't hurt it.
