Porting & Polishing the 2.2

this may or may not have been talked about yet, not really sure...

but i was thinking about taking my head off and having it ported and polished and also doing my throttle body.

after doing this will i need to get it tuned or can i do this without a tune?

Do you have experience with porting? I've read a little about it but it seems like its best left to people with a lot of experience or machines. If its not done right it can decrease flow. I would do some research before ya attempt it. You might wanna pick up a spare head and try on that. Don't port the head unless you are getting a tune.

You would definitely want to have it tuned. You will want to have the head ported and installed at the same time you flash in a new tune.

EDIT: I thought you meant you were going to try this yourself, I reread your post and now I get it. Didnt mean to come off as an ass lol. Are you staying NA? Blower? Turbo?

Yes you will need a new tune, and trust me when I say the exhuast ports on the head are tiny. A well ported head can really open these engines up.

In most cases doing a port and polish is either:

1. Overkill for what your goal is
2. Not going to make a big difference
3. Going to cause negative effects with your powerband

What exactly are you looking to gain power wise? What are you expecting to gain from doing this?
