Best performance header?

Hey guys, did a search on the headers out for the 2.4SS. I found quite a few options and wanted to know if anyone has any feedback on which is the best one? When I say best I mean good quality and the most performance gain. If you have any before and after dyno results thatd be great too. Also please post where/how you can purchase it. I have a 2.25inch magnaflow catback, does that affect my header purchase? Do I require a different downpipe also? Help a brother out. Thanks a lot!

Im sure the JBP will be the best once it out,but most people seem to like the zzp header or the cobalt addiction header for quality and gains

there's also the GMPP Exhaust Manifold, which won't give as good of gains I don't think, but is a GM part...so no warranty issues, that's why I'm getting it...don't know if that's a huge concern with you or not.

a different downpipe wouldn't hurt, not sure on that though.

Next year my set-up will be GMPP intake, GMPP Manifold, XTC downpipe w/cat and the GMPP Performance exhaust.

When the JBP header comes out, it will be the best, no doubt in my mind

Yeah, if money is not an issue, the JBP one is best - but at over $700 US it should be.

The question you need to ask yourself is... do you feel lucky punk? Well, do ya punk?

Oh no, that's from a movie. The real question is: How much more performance am I gong to get over CA's $199 stainless, equal length, shorty?

The CA header comes with a lifetime warranty and dynos a 8-10 hp gain on a stock 2.4. Of course it will make a few more ponies on a 2.4 with full I/H/E like mine.

Without any dyno claims to back up their product, it's anyone's guess - including JBP's.
Now if they posted up a dyno showing 15-20hp on a stock 2.4, I'd say yes, go with it.
It wouldn't be as good of a value in dollars/hp (it would have to make over 30hp to equal the CA header,) but if all you are interested in is max performance and have deep pockets, who cares.

But for what you'd pay for the JBP header you could get a CA header, an XTC b-pipe and an Injen CAI - which would surely make more power than the JBP header alone!

And BTW, the CA header has a 2.25" collector which will match well with your 2.25" catback, producing excellent mid-range torque and smoothness too.

my vote is for the CA header. its a great design and flows great. CA makes awesome stuff. im down there too many times. once kenny put out that header i knew it was going to sell cuz its a great product. i cant wait to get my 2.4. that header is goin rite on as well as his downpipe...maybe even get his exhaust when its fully done or go Gmpp performance exhaust.

You can't beat C/A for the price. But if i could i woulda gone with weapon r's 4-2-1 long tube. Has a 2.5" collector and downpipe w/ no cat. And after talking with Chris from vector, he said they've had great gains from tuning alone with the install of a true long tube header.

Exclamation People Need to Stop Talking about Voiding Warranties!

When will people learn that buying GMPP is no different than not buying GM parts?

If you buy an aftermarket part, it will usually work better than a GM one and will not void your warranty unless it blows up your engine. If your engine blows up from something you install, then you obviously messed up. There is no way headers will ruin your engine.

this is a really stupid question I know. An aftermarket header will bolt up to the stop down pipe, right?

Yes, you are technically correct. However, using your vehicle for "competitive racing purposes" does void your warranty. The problem is that the dealer may look at all the bolt-ons you've added and conclude that this is proof that you were racing, thus voiding your warranty.

The way around this is simple. Should the unlikely event of a blown motor occur, simply un-bolt your header and intake and re-install the stock units before bringing it into the dealer. If you change your own oil and do your own PM, as most enthusiasts do, the dealership won't know they were ever there.

And yes, BossHogg, it will bolt up to the stock b-pipe perfectly.

not all bolt up perfectly. The pacesetter needs cutting of the downpipe i believe. And weapon r's, vibrant, and cti come with downpipes since there's don't meet up to the stock one.

Just so you (and everyone else knows) any header for any cobalt will fit each cobalt. The exhaust "ports" are the same.

You kind of answered your own question there. First all Cobalt headers fit eachother as rallyyellow06 indicated. Second, the Vibrant header is made of 100% T304 Stainless Steel, and also includes a high flow catalytic converter. While the Pacesetter is Mandrel-bent, mild steel tubing, and does not come with a high flow cat.
