getting boost!

in the next four or five months ill be getting the zzp stage 3 turbo kit, Boost Reference fuel pressure system, and their valve springs. i figure get everything together first then install so i can get it all done on one tune. i was wondering though what would be a recommended amount of boost to run?

On a stock engine about 12 psi only. The sleeves on our cars don't like lots of hp lol I'd get darton sleeves and Zzp rods plus pistons of some kind then crank up the boost like crazy

since you're an 06 i'd look into a 07 and up gen II block. They are a lot stronger than the gen I block. I'm not sure what the rods can handle on the 2.4 but i know on the 2.2 they can only handle 250. I just replaced my rods and pistons.

07 and ealier have been said to have forge internals or something like that, so it can handle up to 350.
08 is a yes and no, you might get lucky or not getting a forge one.

i dont think there are any 08 2.4s with the forged rods, no one has proof really.

i know i dont have them because i dropped my oil pan with a buddy of mine and mine were as described in the gm parts list as the non forged steel rods. i am sc'd right now on a 3.0" pulley, i wanted to drop to a 2.8 and run e85 but can't because of the rods. now mcgee is high 300's easily on his 08 2.4. i just think the rods are stronger then the 2.2 rods but who knows. everyone is just assuming this. i know glen229 broke his on his turbo ride with 303whp, but who is to say that it wqasnt something else. no other boosted 08 2.4s have blown. i dont know IMO it is all heresay and since this is my daily/only vehicle i cant test it out like i'd like to. which is also why i am selling my slow ass car and getting a ls1 ws6.

Everything I have heard says the 06 is better, can handle more power. I wouldnt look into an 07 if I already had the best. Do the 07's have forged internals like the 06?

The 07 is just as good as the 06, it is the 08 you want to stay away from unless you are already doing the motor.

i'm talking about just the block not what's inside it but the 2.4 might be different...

Why are you getting the valve springs? Why are you getting the valve springs and nothing else valve train wise?

As far as recommended amount of boost, pressure isn't the direct relation to how much power you'll create...the size turbocharger to create x amount of air flow is what will help determine your possible power amount. Motors for the most part don't blow because of "too much pressure", most fail due to bad tuning (yet some want to blame the engine).

People put way too much emphasis on boost pressure when thats not really the important part and its not the lone factor.

holy crap there is so much misinformation in this thread

06-07 are mechanically identical as far as the block goes..

all le5 are gen II blocks .. their sleeves are fine

and as njhk said it's not really in reference to boost pressure it's power level..

holy crap i can't believe it took 19 posts after the op to have something intelligent be posted lol
