How much boost

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alright guys I have looked for the answer for a few days and I see tons of different answers. I hope I can get help from some of u guys that have done it.

I have 2.4 cobalt its auto and supercharged. Im putting on the 42lb injectors and going to the 3.1 pulley. I want to know what is too much for PSI to run on my car. I dont want to blow a piston or anything. So I wanna know what my limit is later in the summer im going to get header/DP and exhaust on so I also want to know if that will be too much. I saw geneculley talking about not going over 250 before forging ur pistons.

I posted in the forced induction and no one replied. So hopefully I get some help here. I wanna get 10 PSI but dont wanna push it.Please guys I need some advice im getting this done this week coming up. Also im at higher elevation does that play a role?

You'll be fine...Im on 2.8pulley and 60lb injectors with an Injen Intake, 2.25" Exhaust....You'll probably push maybe 12 psi

Yes he will.

He could be running 10psi and be making more power than a car with 12psi.

Can u explain a lil more please? Im sorry if I sound dumb but this is my first time with anything to do with a car like this and I figure ask questions and listening is the best way to learn. My car is said to be 171 hp and 163 stock.... so I figured with 8-10 PSI i could get 230 whp.

There are a lot of things that will affect boost on a blower car setup. You don't "tune in" a set boost level so much like you would with a turbo car. The size of the pulley, exhaust modifications, elevation, climate, etc. will all affect your boost level.

So say you and Glowbalt had the exact same car, engine, and setup .... If you had a free flowing exhaust, and he didnt, your boost level would be lower. You would be in turn making more power than him, but at a lower boost level.

It's tough to shoot for an exact number, but if you research what the other 2.4L boosted cars have done you might find the setup needed.

Being that you live in a much higher elevation than most of us you may need to use a slightly smaller pulley to make the power of a car closer to sea level. So, Glowbalt wasnt totally incorrect. Anything is possible with a good tune though.
