remember GM under-rates all their shizzzz..... so with that in mind, that 325trq rating on the auto trany... yeah, it falls under GM's under rated abilities

Hrm.... appears as though the 5-speeds are a real weak link with performance.

lol, all the autos have come out of the closet to justify themselves.

Manual FTW!

I would only go for auto if I was considering ease of driving.

not to mention that Vince at trifecta cracked the TCM and he re-tuned my trany to shift at 7200 rpms and moved my rev limiter to 7500 rpms and upped all the line pressures to eliminate slipping while going into the next gear

I have a 5spd turbo running 14lb's of boost with a spec flywheel and cltuchmasters fx300. Only a seriously staged car would be able to even touch me. The turbo tech mounts help so much.

I think your axles will handle the abuse just fine unless your using DR's

SS/SCs break axles because they launch too hard with a stick, when you launch with an Auto, the power is already at the wheels, theres no 'jolt' of power.

its all personal preference. I personally wouldnt own an automatic car. It doesnt get more boring than driving an auto. I doubt anyone one here has come close to topping out the 2.4 auto or manual tranny anyways so that cant be the reason.
