I like how most say transmissions are weak... a stock f23 in my buddies cavalier saw over 500hp to the input shaft and took it like a champ with nothing more then a Team GREEN lsd insert similar to phantom grips lsd insert. a spec flywheel and stage 3 clutch... I dont believe those ratings and have been lead to believe thats when the clutch fails if anything... i dynoed 260hp and 255tq when my clutch started to go on me.... then I upgraded

yes and no.... if you drive it by manually shifting it.... in first the car wont autoshift to anything higher then 2nd gear, i found this out at the track testing out different things to get my time down.... almost went the whole 1/4 in 2 gears, bounced off the rev limiter for the last 80ft of the track and ran a 16.8, shifting it up to "3rd" right before the rev limiter is what got me my 16.7 @ 84mph

Im not calling you a liar by any means, I just find it hard to believe you ran a 16.3 in a LS auto with just a CAI....Ive seen 2.2 LS auto's run 16.3's with alot more done than just a CAI....full exhaust, tranny mounts, intake, header, etc.

not true at all....look at the cavis...the f23 has more than proven its worthy....id say most are autos just because that was all that was availiable when they were made seeing as about 80% of the 2.4's are auto and most manuals have to be special ordered

thats pretty impressive.

guess it all depends on the track too. i was running 16.3's average for awhile stock...

then dropped to a 16.1/15.9 with a CAI/Muffler delete

Should be good for a DD, rain, shine, or snow.
well not snow fwd in low pros..get winter wheels

Sorry, but something must seriously be wrong here
Oh buddy buddy buddy! im sorry to see you watched the video before the new clutch/flywheel/tune got done to it. Im going to post another video in a week or so after the wideband + some other "secret " mods get installed. Then you should see what it can do.

And by the way, i guess you didnt watch the full video because i clearly say " and thats only 8psi" + you can hear/see the clutch slip and after my D3 got installed i found out my Speedometer is off roughly 5.3ish mph due to the bigger rims .

Imma make a post here too.....AUTO FTW!!!!

WOW that was said like 12 times, anyway from what Ryan said way earlier, autos hold the boost up between shifts and it holds more torque than the manual. Oh and also for the shitty drivers no replacing clutches.

Oh and uh super old thread bump.

And I'm gona repeat it for you.... There are plenty of cavi's and balt's holding up to 400-500HP with the 5 speed and not a problem. That rating is probably as someone else stated: when teh clutch starts to slip. All you have to do is upgrade the clutch and blow that auto away.

HAHAHAH....well yea just get a new clutch or learn how to drive. Any motor/transmission can handle the power, it depends how you drive.

No one said anything about not knowing how to drive there car... You auto guys are the ones saying you got the auto cause you can't drive manual tanny's. The clutch is only capable of handling so much power before it loses its grip and slips. Therefore you need to get a new clutch to handle the power. A perfectly driven clutch thats only rated to 171 ft/lbs is not gonna hold up to 300 HP very long before slipping.

My clutch is running just fine, I don't have boost yet either though. But I was kinda planning on boosting it next year. Plans change though when newer cars come out (camaro).

You know, I've read through this whole thing, and I don't think one person said the 'correct' answer.

The reason that there are more auto 2.4T than 5sp 2.4T is very likely that in 06-current, the 2.4 is the 'quickest' cobalt you can get with an automatic transmission. Most folks interested in forced induction who wanted a 5sp would have bought an SS/SC(TC) in the first place.

The 5sp transmission will hold up fine. There are plenty of 250+ wtq Cavaliers out there with the F23. The CLUTCH may be rated at 170 wtq (and therefore, per GM, the entire transmission). With that said, even the clutch can hold the Hahn/Garrett kit at around 8 psi.

I've been doing it for about 2 weeks now since I haven't had the time to put my upgraded clutch in, and it does just fine for normal driving. It slips under 1/2+ throttle... but once turbo'd there's no real need to go past that anyways since it is quite a bit more responsive.

I'm not saying I'd prefer to maintain a stock clutch (as I can't wait to change mine out, and am of course scared to death to take it to the track in its current condition), but the complete stock tranny can hold the torque.

I'm also saying that the rating of the transmission has absolutely nothing to do with the pissing contest over why there are more autos.
