okay I was just double checking the eBay link posted previously wouldn't open for me. I have a Gen3 2.4 block with no stock oil cooler so I'm wondering if that piece will fit for me . Sorry to thread jack

 

This project has been dormant for a while but we made some good progress today. The oil cooler is on the car, and a test drive to check movement and clearances with the GoPro went very well. Planning on completing the project next weekend by running the lines and installing Mr. B's flange.

How do you like the Mishimoto radiator? Ive been wondering about getting one.

 

It is definitely an upgrade quality-wise from stock. I broke 2 stock radiators within a 2-month period (both on pot holes). The Mishimoto is built much better with no plastic parts.

But it is important to note that it is not an upgrade cooling-wise. In fact, if for some reason the oil cooler isn't enough to get my on-track temps down, I'm looking at getting a custom radiator from Ron Davis.

I dont think its that much larger. And he was going to get one with a built in oil cooler

Yeah ZZP's radiator uses a cheap inefficient Chiwanese core. Its dimensions are bigger than stock but its cooling capacity is not by much. The one I had Ron Davis spec out would have 3 times (!) the cooling capacity of the stock radiator. And it's made right here in good old 'merica.
But I'm fairly confident I won't need it.

OTTP has a radiator coming out. The prototype is being sent to me; I believe it is larger than ZZP.

I like the oil cooler mounting. That looks exactly like the cooler I bought to cool the transmission on my Jeep. I am taking the tranny cooling away from the radiator since they have a history of breaking and dumping coolant into the trans.

I may just buy two and copy you on my cobalt

Finished up the oil cooler today!

Besides some mild and moderate driving to check for leaks or other issues we haven't really been able to do any testing on its cooling capabilities yet.

Stock oil cooler/heat exchanger vs. Mr B custom flange:



Oil ports of the stock oil cooler. GM tolerances: "close enough". Can we get a recall on that? lol



Looks so clean with the custom flange installed! And so much space! I can actually see my 4.45 tranny now



The hoses really firmed up the position of the cooler. Where it wobbled a bit at the bottom before, it is rock solid now. Doesn't hit the radiator nor the intercooler. Fits perfectly!

I'll report about results once I get a chance to really heat 'er up at the track.

I ordered my cooler for this over the weekend. I am using a smaller versions of the Haynes trans cooler that is going on my Jeep. It looks to be a little smaller than what you picked up.

 

I believe Mr. B was planning on offering these for sale. You may want to send him a PM.

 

Got some large diameter flex tubing to put on the oil cooler lines where they may rub against something. Also ordered a couple inline oil sensor manifolds so we can measure oil temperature and oil pressure pre and post cooler.

 

Update: I have 2 sets of oil temperature and oil pressure sensors on its way to be installed in the manifolds pictured above.
Plan is to put in some runs at the track to measure the effectiveness of the oil cooler. If it does not do what it needs to, the next step would be to mount one size bigger cooler, which is already chilling in my garage

 

If this one doesn't work you might think about a more efficient one than a larger one
