Well, if it looks like a duck, but sounds like a lion, is it still a lion?

It has a different intake apparently cause it's a CA emmisons motor.

Not sure what I'm gonna do about the oil cooler, I'll have to wait till I pull it apart. If I can delete it I'll go that route, oil cooler is nice but not worth the hassle I think.

I am of the opposite persuasion. I would say its totally worth the hassle, but thats up to you!

Updates:

Found a company that makes an adaptor to run a remote oil cooler. Turns out oil flow from the one hole to the other is nessacary as thats the only way for oil to get out of the filer housing, so looks like I'll be running an oil cooler afterall as it is really my only option.

Finalizing my clutch choice, probably end up going with a 4 puck unsprung Clutchnet one. For $260 bucks you can't go wrong, reviews seem mostly positive as well from other forums.

Just ordered a set of 9.0/22.0-13 M&H full slicks, very excited about these!

Hopefully getting the motor on the stand this weekend and tear into it a little bit, I'll grab some pics for everyone.

Thats all for now!

It will be custom ordered from Cometic, they can make you whatever you want. I believe they sell a 89mm L61 gasket tho that's not custom order. You can interchange any of the ecotec head gaskets, not to sure on the LNF one tho, the rest work tho.

That being said I might just run a stock LE5 gasket, not sure if the thinner head gasket is really worth it.

You did not happen to get your hand on an LSJ short block did you? I am interested to see if there is a difference in the height of the LSJ piston vs the LE5.

No I don't have an LSJ short block, I only have the head.

Are you refering to the deck height of the piston?

Yes. I was just trying to collect some info on the build I want to do.

The rod length is basically the same between the LSJ and the LE5. But what about the distance from the wrist pin to the top of the piston?

Updates:

Drag slicks should be here any day now, very pumped.

Pulled the motor apart a bit tonight, snapped some pics as you can see.

Thinking about actually going a different route with the oil cooler now after speaking with my buddy. He is gonna see what he can come up with at work for a solution. I'll figure it out more once we get into the motor a bit more.

Clean bottom end

Forged Steel FTW

Piston Oil Squirters

Thats all for now folks.

Where does the oil cooler go? Those 2 holes by the oil filter? Just tap them bitches and run some AN or barb fittings.

Yup, there is a company that makes a adapter that bolts over top that has AN fittings on it.

But ya, tap and my buddy is gonna try and get me a u-bend hard line made up that will just loop them together.

We were also thinking about pulling the sleeve out so the oil can get back into the motor inside the oil filter housing. Its hard to explain but you can kinda see the sleeve on the back hole (closest to exhaust side).

It looks like it was just pressed in, thinking about tapping it, heating the block and pulling it out with a slide hammer and then just plugging the holes, problem solved.

I'll figure something out.

I like to keep things simple, less things to go wrong...haha

I'll probably tap the block for fittings and then just run a hoop to connect them, later one I can run an oil cooler if I want.

Wheel adapters ordered an hour ago, 5x100 -> 4x100.

Karo @ AllEcotec.com is putting in my order for a Cometic 0.030" HG and Flywheel bolts this afternoon. I would go thinner but I'm not sure what kind of piston valve clearance there is/ I don't wanna retard my cam timing to much. It will still put me around 11.2-11.3:1 CR so that should do nicely.

Only thing left to order is a clutch to be able to put the drivetrain together.

Progress... lol

Simply asking... why not run a bit higher compression like 12.5:1? Are you planning on shooting it with spray, or are you leaving stock internals?

Wheel adapters? You should have just got those rims re-drilled.

I'm leaving the bottom end stock. 12.5:1 would be awesome but then I would have to run it on 93pump at least (we don't have 93pump in my city). Plus its more money to get pistons made and what not.

This will do for now, nitrous isn't out of the question for next year...infact its a very good possibility.

I wanted to, but you can't drill a 5x100 pattern inside a 4x100 pattern, one of the holes overlaps.

You would have to oval that hole out because a 5 lug wheel pattern distance isn't measured across the centre of the bore. If you look at a diagram of how to measure bolt patterns you will see what I mean, its kinda hard to explain.

Basically tho, it won't work
