Actually that picture is a mock up, the cam gear bolts (the big center ones) aren't even tight. I was done for the night, but I just wanted to make it seem like I got the cam gears one

I tightened the crap out of those things. I didn't even know they had a torque spec

i've been thro the same **** you've been. granted in a smaller time frame, but you get the point.
i was beyond nervous when i first started mine. but once she cracks to life, every thing becomes worth it.
also, even if you left all the bolts loose the cams were allowed to travel the max of 20* the gears allow, you still wouldn't smack a valve.
your valve timeing would change, BUT the engine timeing would stay in-tact thus preserving the engine.
wouldn't make **** for power, but it would work.
you'll be alright.

This is my first time building an entire Ecotec engine (done a head swap a couple times). However, this is FAAARRRRR from my first time assembling an engine. I know about the dangers of timing the valvetrain and what not. Plus I will rotate the engine by hand to make sure everything clears. Fellas, I may be an idiot, but there is one thing I'm not, and thats an idiot

My build is on hold until I get my next paycheck. I am missing quite a few bolts, and misc... stuff. Such as the timing chain oil sprayer. I need to make a call and clear out the misc parts warehouse of my local dealer... Unfortunately I'm flat broke until my next paycheck (next friday). So, yeah.

Nope. Almost though. My dad and I stop by regularly to pick up parts for our project cars
My dad has a '89 Firebird bracket car. He actually just got it running today. Oh well, mine will have about 100 hp more on pump gas, and be street legal
