Again, I say, didn't he pair the wrong cylinders? Doesn't sound very "top notch" to me.

No. They are being lowered in front of the transmission where you Cobalt SS guys have your brake module, we have empty space.

Didn't pair the wrong cylinders afaik.

None of that looks half-assed to me.

Soo...keeping the blower and pulling the guts out while running the stock intake mani, wrapping the custom made header in heat wrap, and pairing the wrong cylinders isn't half assed? There's some advance auto brass manifold plopped right in the middle of the engine bay.

And yes, that's the same set up I saw like a year ago. It was a different header then tho, so he either correctly paired the cylinders or just wrapped the other one he made up in heat wrap and said screw it.

Well Hahn didn't have their intake manifold back then, and custom wasn't an option from that shop as far as the intake manifold setup. The stock manifold is actually functional as the air-water cooling system is still used instead of an air-air system. It's rather effective too, although I believe he's switching to the Hahn manifold and FMIC setup in the near future.

And I'd like to know what's wrong with heat wrap? What do you plan on doing? Dumping the heat from a 500HP car throughout the engine bay with your large manifold? That heat wrap and the heat shielding all serves functional purpose. Eye-candy manifolds don't make horsepower.

I don't understand what you're talking about with the "advance auto brass manifold" that's supposedly plopped in the middle of the engine bay. The only brass I see is the fitting used for the oil pressure sending unit.

That's called a manifold chief.

Ok, never heard someone refer to a fitting as a manifold before... chief. Considering we were talking about his exhaust manifold, I'm sure you can see where the confusion came from. No need to get smart about it.

Either way, I was just disagreeing with your idea of a half-assed setup. I know the kind of money and time that went into that setup. I've seen the craftsmanship first hand. There's nothing half-assed about it in my opinion, but you're entitled to your own opinion.

Good luck with your project.

If there was any money into that project, then someone is walking around with a pocket full of it right now.

I'm not about to get into another stupid argument on a forum. You've made your opinion more than clear in a rather ignorant manner. It's probably not the best way to represent your shop, but hey, it's your shop.

Again, good luck.

Your Turbo:
http://www.timsturbos.com/S258.html
retail new 1300ish

My Turbo:
Holset HX35/WH1C
bought for 330 shipped new

a few lb/min difference..guess your turbo is tiny too...

Mine weighs 33 lb btw...4" inlet as well

Yup tiny...

As for the manifold 1-2 and 3-4 are paired but in a turbo manifold you want all exhaust pulses delivered to the turbine...which it does...I would prefer if 1-4 and 2-3 were paired but that is my OCD kicking in...works great as it is...

Also if you knew anything about thermal management you'd understand why all that heat wrap is there...plastic and 1400deg exhaust temps dont mix...also helps with efficiency

As I recall in your rlf post you were trying to go "budget"...Your turbo cost roughly half of what I have into my entire turbo setup...including full 3" exhaust with electric cutout, external wastegate, manifold, and all charge and turbo piping...

I am not going budget lol. Where did you ever get that from? I don't want all the people on here to think you have to dump like $10k into your motor to make 500whp. In fact I'm going to show that for under $2000 out of your pocket you can hit that level.

A FEW lbs/min more? Come on man lol. You and I both know what a difference 3-4 lbs/min can make.

Also, my S258 was $450 new, plus $220 for the smaller housing. ;-)

I don't mean to bash on you or anything, but I am getting so sick and tired of hearing: "Oh, so you're doing it like Dan?" I had no idea you even put a front mount turbo on until after I had already started making my plans for mine on the other side of the engine bay. You beat me to the punch plain and simple, but I'm taking it one step further with a different mount, custom made manifolds, and a larger turbo. And I know what hot temps can do to plastic, but um....our hoods and engine bays are metal...ehem.

Yes, there might be metal there... but what about the wiring? What about the headlight housing? What about the fender just on the other side of that thin sheet of metal by his turbo? Not only that, but you don't really want to soak your engine bay in all that heat.

By the way, this is just out of curiosity and not meant in any bad way... but do you own that shop in WV? I'm a little confused on your relation to that. I was under the impression that you owned a performance shop there, but someone said you were an audio tech at a shop that you don't own. Please clear it up for me.

Why does it matter how it looks as long as it functions as it is meant to be. I mean, it's a Saturn, and Dan knows it.

The heat wrap is on there for a reason. With Dan's uppipe, the exhaust needs to travel further to the Turbo. The wrap helps keep the gases hot and higher pressure to help with the large Turbo's spool.

I am curious as to why you think mounting the turbo on that side of the motor is a better than the other?
