Black Paint Question.

I'm considering getting a black base coupe. I presently have a black 88 Mustang, so I know that black paint can be a pain to keep clean. My car isn't clearcoated, but the new one would be. My question is, is clearcoated black easier to keep nice or harder? I could polish out minor scratches and spider webs (correct term?) before, but what about in the new car?
Thanks for any advice.

Black can be some what easy to keep clean IF you keep a high quality paste wax (high carnuba wax(sp) content) I have has 3 black cars in the past and as long as I keep them waxed they doo fine. We use a lot of salt here so before winter I try to put 3 coats on and during winter I add a coat once a month. You would be amazed what a little rain shower will do when you keep your wax in good shape

But could you compare clearcoated black to non-clearcoated black please.
I used to wax my mustang every other week at the least, and often used Dri Wash in between.

The clear coat will give you a smoother base to apply the wax to. Clear coat has a smaller particule than the paint so it fills gaps in the paint and levewls its own finish.

I have never owned a Black non clear coat car. But I have owned a black S10 xtreme which was monochromatic so not metallic, nothing. The clear coat on the Black shows every dirt particle and imperfection. You going to need to constantly keep it waxed or the dirty will damage the clear coat and not the wax. If you waxed it every other week would be good. I dunno where you live but in the winter I can't wax my car and I am not lucky enough to be able to have two cars. So the weather takes it's toll on the finish and maybe thats why I have had issues with mine. Salt and sand in a northeast winter is brutal.

And to answer your question THEY ARE A PAIN IN THE ASS TO GET IT OUT OF THE FINISH. Basically you can remove clear coat to fix it.

Basically you can never take it to a car wash and have to be very careful when you wash it to not mess up the finish.

But it also looks great

[edit]
Also I will never buy another black car again unless I can have a second car to driver on bad weather days.

The clear will also show up all the small sratches that are made when you clean a dirty car (you rub the dirt around and creat small scratches in the clear-coat. then the sun shines on your clean car and shows all the marks.

I like the look of a clean black car, but they are seldom clean. i wouldn't buy a black car.

What about in arizona? Its dusty but most days its not to bad. I park my car in the garage at night. Winter it only gets to about 50F too. However you cant just take a black car to the carwash? Would the blue have this same problem?

haha i dont know about arizona..but black does get dirty and sometimes it looks pretty sick....this summer on the cape i was with some kids and we wanted to go to a lake and the only route their was an offroading trail that did service cars...but when we got through it at the end it was all explorers and jeeps and my alero was all mudded up but i think it looked pretty sick....ive had a few small scratches on my car and ive found scratch x and wax to be a must in cleaning it up to look nice....but these past winter months i have to give up and wait for spring to really work on it...black is a lot of work
