DIY painting soon.. Help!!
Hey guys..
So, I decided that I am going to do a sand-n-spray on my strut bar, as well as my intake tubing. The strut bar is solid, but getting a tad bit of surface rust on the tower ends, and I bought the intake used, and thus is is a little scratched up. The bar is the grey DC one, and the intake is the polished Injen CAI. I plan on doing a sanding with those little sanding sponges to speed up the process, and using different amounts of roughness to get it looking good. I will then spray them down with some coats of a silver Rust-Oleum type paint to try to prevent future corrosion. The parts will just be silver after it's all done. Should I start with something like 60, then go to like 120, then go to a 240 to promote proper texture? How many coats should I do? I'm not going to clear it either.. I want it to be more of a dull finish instead of it being shiny..
Also, I'm going to do my valve cover. How do you properly and safely remove the valve cover? It's a 2.4. Are there any how-to's or picture step-by-steps on doing this? I've never ripped an engine open before, so I'm nervous on doing it right. I'm going to also do a DIY paint on this. Should I do a sand them too just like the bar and tubing? I'd like more of a gloss finish to this.. I saw that there is "Engine Enamel" paint ad Advance. Is this good to use for this? Any clear coat for this type of painting? I originally wanted to get it powder-coated, but they wanted it for a week. Not going to happen. How many coats would you suggest and how long until I re-mount it on the car? I wanted it to be a teal-type color, but I found a nice blue that i'll just probably use if I can't find a teal color I can use..
Lastly, I'm spraying my A and C pillars black. Will probably 3-4 coats be good on that?
Any information would be incredibly helpful. Thanks!
Thanks for the help guys.
