does anyone know how to remove the doorhandles on the cobalt coupe? i was thinkin about switching out the ones on my black ss/sc to the chrome ones from gmpartsdirect.. part number 17800002. you may recognize these from the infamous GTX sport cobalt

 

If its anything like my corvette, once you take off the door panel and have the window in the up position, you should be able to reach thru some small access holes to get at the mounting studs and remove the various rods for the handle and lock. Of course that was on a 85, not sure how much they changed things from then till now.

Your also going to have to slip the lock cylinder out of your existing handles and place them in your new handles. Might be tricky but not all that hard. It should have a little spring loaded door for the key entry hole that keeps debris out. Just watch the order removed so you can line it all back up.

 

hmm, most people wish they had body color door handles, why are you switching?

 

I think it would go well with the color of the rims, the white SS badge and the chrome door handles. They would be nice accents spaced equally in the side of the car.

When you do get them dont wax them or you will scratch the chrome, use metal polish for chrome.

Plus the lock cylinders wont stick out anymore against a black body.

 

i had chrome and it was peeling off and razor sharp..so i took them out today painted em and now cannot get the spring in the right spot to get them back in there and working..sucks i have to roll my windows down to get out or yank really hard on the metal cable to get out lmao..someone please help me!!! and on the coupe..i have an 05 black ss sc coupe..there is a little plate behind the handle..pop it out..unscrew one screen..then pry up the side closest to the side mirror and it will pop out..disconnect the metal cable which looks like a brake line on a bmx bike lol..pull out this black plastic pin from the bottom..i thought it was a flat head screw from the top but just push it down and pull out from the bottom and bam you got it out..now getting it back in is a bitch..tried for an hour will my cell in my mouth for light..hahaha jaw hurts so much..someone help me!!!!!! please!!!!!

 

I would like to take mine off to fix the rattles that come from them like crazy. I had a bad experience the last time I took my door skin off last time though so I'll just deal till I get the guts to try again.
