Dual Projector Retrofit

Hey gang, I've been sitting on these parts for a few weeks trying to decide what I was going to do and I finally think I have a pretty clear idea of what I want.

So far I have the bezel sanded down and almost ready for paint, both projectors are mocked up in place as well as the clear side markers are cut and molded.

The next step is to get them in my car and do some aiming, followed by permanently mounting them and finishing the shrouds around each projector. Let me know what you think.

I am either:
1. going to see if there is a yellow bulb or yellow lens for my single xenon projector and use that as my DRL and turn signal
2. look at fitting a small motorcycle turn signal near the top where the two lights meet and come to a point
3. look at fitting a small motorcycle turn signal on the far end beside the single xenon.

Obviously the easiest option would be 1, but what does everyone think about that? Does using a projector for a turn signal sound like a ridiculous idea? Thanks

I like #2, except, at the bottom, instead of the top

That's actually not a bad idea other... have to consider that as well.

I guess I could also just fit some high intensity amber LEDs and use those, but I want to stay away from that, the whole reason for this build was that I wanted projectors without halos or LEDs.

... Your like 2 steps ahead of me. I did the singels. I have the parts for doubles, just with the cold haven't started again.

If your gunna use a bulb for the DRL in the projector, do not... i repeat do not use an HID bulb. Anything requiring a ballast will die after a short period of time as they aren't ment to be turned on and off rapidly.

You probably already knew that though Looks like FXs? What type of projectors?

That's cool man, good luck with yours.

Ya, thanks for the tip and I have already thought of that. My bi-xenons are FX35's and the xenons are some projectors out of a Volvo that actually have a nicer cutoff that the FX35's, which kind of surprised me considering I snagged that pair for only $20 on eBay

What you making the shrouds out of? I used thin sheet metal, cut with tin snips and painted it with high quality paint. 2nd time around I'm fiberglassing it all.

thanks Venom!

I'm utilizing the yellow 'egg yolk' from the turning signal, painting it black, cutting out a hole for the projector and gluing the chrome shroud (in the above pics) and that will be the complete shroud for that projector.

For the other projector, I will probably fiberglass some kind of contours leading up to the chrome shroud I have.

no, just the bi-xenons are going to be HIDs, the outer single xenons are going to be halogens and probably amber to be used a turning signals/DRL

I would only need another turn signal if I don't end up using my second set as turn signals themselves.

The bi-xenons are FX35 and the xenons are from a Volvo, both pairs I got off of eBay. The FX's were new and I got for $50 while the Volvo were used and I got for $20.

oh ****.. this is actually similar to an idea I was thinking about doing with my ion... i am eventually going to make A8 style headlights for my ion using dual projectors, I'm really looking forward to seeing how this turns out

Thanks everyone.

@Raven, if I do fit in separate turn signals, I will use them as always on low beams for DRL and night lights as well as when I have my high beams on, these could stay on so I have both lows and highs on at the same time (not sure if that is possible/practical).

if you figure out how to split themm pleasssse let me know because thats part of the problem for my set up I want to make the spot where my DRLs are now my lows and my headlights my high beams but i have no clue to how separate everything, basically i can do the labor but i have no clue about the wiring issues so if you could share it with me i'd be really thankful

There is a fuse for DRLs in the fuse panel, and if you pull that fuse your DRLs wont come on any more but your high beams will. So what Im saying is its gotta be possible to separate them. You might have to run another wire from the fuse block up to the headlights though.

I have a 07 where the low beams are the DRLs.

You should have an HID in the turn signal area then leave the stock area for a regular headlight. HID for low and high and when you hit high, the normal high beam comes on. This will make for GREAT visibility.
