HID / Projector kit - daytime running lights question.

I'm looking in to buying the projector light assemblies and a set of HID bulbs. I have one question though. Will my daytime running light module trigger the HIDs? I believe it is just a lower current to the bulbs in stock form and driving around in the daytime with HID's blazing is a bit cheezy and I'd imagine would shorted bulb life. Is there any workaround for this such as setting it up so the marker lights come on instead of the daytime running lights when my car is on? I'd imagine I'd need a couple of relays but not sure how tapping into the wiring is going to effect the lighting control and I don't want to fry something. I've looked at the wiring diagram but I'm at a loss for ideas on how to resolve this.

My optimal situation, as I stated earlier, would be to have the markers/signals come on instead of the actual headlights - possibly somehow wire the low voltage daytime running light power to the smaller filament in the markers/signals and just throw a resister or something on there in its place to prevent it from telling me I have burned out bulbs.

Anyone done this or have any advice? Thanks!

d.

as far as I know HID's will mean that you'll lose your DRL's

Personally I've just replaced my bulbs with higher wattage ones and I don't have DRL's anymore.

if you will be using projectors....then theres a nice little switch in the car to turn on the Halos and LEDs without turning on your low/hi beam lights....turn the lighting...thingy...from auto up one click....there are 4 options that do the following in order

Headlights on
Running Lights on (halos, LEDs, orange bulb)
Auto
Off

Then you must have wired them that way.. I wired mine up so the DRL's, LED's and halo's are on all at once. My low beams are completly off.

If you install HID's in your projectors they will not come on with your daytime running lights... They only come on if your headlights are on, like at night.

if you wire them exactly as the projectors are instructed, and exactly as the HIDs are instructed, only the orange light comes on. Low beams are not.

Just curious... Why would you want your low beams on if it's not dark enough to see them anyway? Projectors or not?

you wouldn't. he's asking if they do, because HIDs are too expensive for the bulbs to go out from constant use

actaully HID bulbs themselves arnt anymore expensive then Silverstars ~$45... its the 2 ballasts at $40/piece that make the whole kit pricy.

oh, ok. Well, either way, the point wasn't that he was asking for a way to get the lights to stay on during the day, he wants them off, which they will be.

its cuz with the daytime running lamps, the low beams are on but they are dimmer then when the headlights are on at night. i was worried if the HIDs would be on all day whether at regular light output or dimmer during the day, they would mess up.

It depends on what year car you have. For the 2005/2006 your ambers will still go on. For the 2007 with low voltage DRL, I do not know. It depends on how the ballasts react to the lower voltage. There is an easy solution however, since the DRL have their own fuse, you can simply remove it.

FYI: please don't install HID without projectors, and don't get anything above 8000K

Actually...i wouldnt recommend anything higher than 5000K if you get projectors......you want USABLE light and lots of it.....projectors do this best........using anything higher than 5000K is just defeating the purpose...

as the color temp goes up, output goes down. stick to white, be safe, and get the most the projectors have to offer

i dont doubt that...your comparing Xenon to Halogen there...

I'm talkin about the difference between 5000k xenon and 6000k xenon.

again, not debating the differance between halogen and xenon....

put my 4300K xenon next to your 10000k xenon, and i'll bet you i can see a LOT better than you can
