a catchcan is a pointless mod unless it has a breather on the top, and the line is a -6AN to -10AN line.

the PCV system on these cars is not run off of a vaccum pump like older v'8s and drag cars. there is simply four holes that go down the entire head, block, all the way to where the crank rotates. people are using catch cans when they don't need them. they think its going to catch oil sprayed up by those holes going from the bottom of the engine, to the valve cover, and then to the intake, which only releaves crank case pressure and routes it back into the engine. however. very, very little amounts of oil do make it up and through. but are actually perfectly fine to go into the engine, and thats all people are catching anyway, a few drops every week.

if i were to set one up. i would have the fitting on the valve cover and intake changed to a -10AN fitting. and get a catch can with a breather filter on the top, then run the line from the valve cover, to the can, to the intake.

The LSJ doesn't have a traditional PCV system, but the valve cover still vents directly to the intake tube just before the throttle body. This is to prevent pressure build-up in the crankcase. Oil vapor gets sucked into the intake and burns off in the combustion chamber, but in the process can gum up your throttle body and cause it to stick.

An oil catch can does just as it's name says. You put it inline between the valve cover and intake tube and it catches this oil vapor and prevents it from entering your throttle body. Keeps your idle smooth and your engine running at it's best. You just check the can every now and then and empty any oil that's built up.

I dunno, mine looked like crap, cleaned it, went back after a few thousand miles and was already starting to gunk up again. Put on the home depot version and never had another problem.

Don't know what to tell you. congrats??

I wouldn't go out and spend big $$$$ on doing this when you can do it yourself for like $20 or less.

i just put it on for when i blew my motor i had a serious amount of blow by and it was pushing oil out the valve cover and all over the place, so it was basicly done for if i ever have the issue it will fill the catch can and not go all over the motor and in the intake. it basically just saving me a mess for if my motor pops, that was the only reason for me doing it, cause it was a mess. oh it also stops oil from venting back into the intake and gumming up my throttle body. other than that theres no gains to having one.
