Ive always used engine enamel but i've seen people use normal paint and get away with it. Most spray paint boil at around 340 degrees which I doubt the valve cover gets that hot so I don't see why you can't use normal spray paint.

Is it a time consuming process to remove? Is it something I could do over a weekend? I love the look of the painted valve cover.

the seal is a flexible rubber type and it can be reused as long as you are under 100k miles or so (if you are over 100k miles you should replace it anyways).

You have to take the breather line off of the intake/Valve cover connection and also another one that goes from the valve cover to the turbo. The intake one is easy just disconnect where it attaches to the intake. The turbo one is much harder to figure out. There is a small bolt (9mm i think) right next to where the breather line goes into the turbo. If you remove that then the line will come off of the turbo no problem.
