My new dash paint (with pics)
My new dash paint (with pics)
Hey guys-
I finally got something relatively important (at least looks wise) done to my car. I painted the silver dash pieces and the pieces that go around the locks. At first I was just planning to paint it Sunburst Orange to match my car, but then I found something way more awesome: Mirage colorshift paint from Duplicolor (http://www.duplicolor.com/products/mirage.html). I went with the gold/magenta kit, because they don't have one that specifically contains orange. However, when shifting between those two colors, it looks really orange, and matches pretty well. The pictures don't do it justice, because it's extremely sparkly, and it was also hard to capture all the different colors it shows up as. I have the ebony interior (the pic are bright, so it's kind of hard to tell).
And, I can't stress this enough: SAND like crazy with a fine grit if you're going to paint these pieces. Mine are kind of scratched up, even after all the paint. You can only tell if you look really close, so it doesn't bother me, but it's definitely not a professional job.

I have more pictures on my cardomain page: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2456047
By the way, one kit is enough to do about as much as I did. If you're planning on painting a lot more than that, you might need 2 kits (it comes as a primer, the color shift, and a clear coat).
What do you think?

looks like it turned out nice.
The lighting doesnt seem to be helping your pics out to well....
Looks like this is one of those where IRL it looks way differnt than digital pics.
The door insert pic looks the best.

Thanks! I used the Duplicolor Mirage magenta/gold kit. It comes with a black primer basecoat (necessary for the color shift to show), the color shift paint, and a clear top coat. Probably the longest step was sanding... that took a while to get all the silver paint off the plastic (except where it was already chipping, ha). Painting only took a few hours (waiting between coats and all). I had to wait about 2 weeks to paint it in the first place though. The humidity is supposed to be under 50% for the paint to dry properly, and I live in New Orleans, where the humidity is usually more like 90%, haha...
