Canada paint

has anyone here with paint code 21U painted their car? or a part of it?

i gotta paint a portion of my truck lid and my drivers door, trunk lid was egg'd and cracked the paint,

today, when i got to work, i was getting out of my car and the wind took the door and swung it fully open against a wall, well all i seen was paint on the wall and i said ****, i checked my door and about 4 inches around 1inch wide along the side of the door touching to below the body line it is slightly bent so im gonna have my buddy rob do it at his shop.

what im wondering is, the paint has a very high metalic/flake count, and it goes blueish/purple depending on sunlight n such. will it look funny if its not the same mix?

or can i buy say a pint directly from gm,

im gonna take this opportunity to do my dash trim the same colours, i hate that grey or whatever it is

I manage a paint and body shop so I will be able to help you with this.

First off, there is no such thing as GM paint, Honda paint, Dodge paint etc. All of the auto manufaturers use paint manufactures to supply them with paint. Companies such as DuPont, PPG, Sickens, Spies etc.

As long as your buddy mixes the paint per the fomula that your VIN# and paint code provide him with, uses quality materials, and blends if necessary (he can tell you what that is) you should not be able to tell a difference at all.

One more thing, it is not a good idea to paint just a portion of a panel. This is what we call a "burn-in" or a "spor-in" The proper way to paint anything is to paint the entire panel. If you paint just a portion of a panel, it will look okay for about a year and then a white hazy ring will appear where the paint was cut off. The ring starts to get worse and worse after that. So have him do it the right way and paint your entire trunk and door. It will be better for you in the long run. Hope this helps

Just to ad to what kenhebe said, GM does not recomend blending clear. complete panels must be cleared.
