Paint Scuff Need Advice
Paint Scuff Need Advice
I got a scuff on my rear bumper. its mostly light looking scratches within a 3 by 3 inch area. its on black so they show up if you look at the right angle. anyone have any luck with any scratch removing product? ive tried waxing and buffing and even tried to even them out with a lil bit of light rubbing compound but im not having any luck. please help. thanks.
Best thing you can do right now is you a semi-abrasive wax and a buffer on the area needed. Then finish it up with a polish and a protectant wax. If that does not work, then resort to the wet sanding.
I have Meguiars Mirror Glaze line which is a professional line and they make abrasive products for this...You can find them at Pep Boys. regular wax will not get rid of a scuff.
Don't go to that extreme if you don't have to. Use that for the last resort....

they have a few different decent rubbing compounds (basically the same thign as abrasive polishes) at autozone. if you wanted to do it the right way, you would have to go at it with a rubbing compound, then a mild/light polish, then a glaze or wax.
edit: if you could post a picture with good lighting i could probably be a little bit more specific as to what you have to do. also, if you get ur hands on a good picture shoot hattrickstu (or something like that) a PM, i kno he details cars too and has more experience then me, or send Turbowax a PM, they will definately be able to guide you in the right direction.

Wetsanding is overkill. Someone hit my passenger side door with theirs while getting out of their car and got scuffs on my paint. Some Meguiars ScratchX got it off no problem. Scratch Doctor is really good too, just buy what you think is the better value (if you don't already have some).
well theres your problem lol. honestly your probably not going to be able to find the pad that needs to be used with a rubbing compound at a local autozone.
i'll wait till your able to post more pictures tomorrow before i send you on a goose chase on what products will be needed. but like i said, dont hesitate to PM either of those two ppl i mentioned before since they have more experience/knowledge about this stuff then me.

after seeing that its definately scuffed and lightly scratched. not sure how deep the scuff mark is or how rough the paint is. but if the paint is really rough/cant run your hand over it smoothly, you might have a more serious problem. if not, id say a porter cable is going to get you your best results.
there is a way to do it by hand if u dont wanna spend the $200 on a porter cable, the results wont be AS good, but it will definately improve it depending on the actual condition of the paint. its late right now, so tomorrow if i get a chance too ill do a quick research on one of the detailing forums im on and let you know what products to order online that you can use by hand.
if you wanna, check out autopia.org and autogeek.net. those are two VERY reputable deailing forums with tons and tons of info. heck, join, post these pics, and im sure those guys can help/guide you through what to do.
