painting cupholder and shiftknob trim..

I searched the forums and how tos but didn't find what I needed.

I just got my GM Victory Red spray paint yesterday and I want to paint around the cupholder. I have it out but I wasn't sure how you guys taped off the trim of the top so that the cupholder itself didn't get painted, just the top trim..

I also want to paint the silver lining piece around my shiftknob but I don't know how to get it out. I don't want to pull and break it and I couldn't see any clips. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

well for the cupholder rim you will just have to tape off the inside.... its a pain but take your time and it will turn out awesome.... and not sure on the second part; sorry

okay i auctually did both of these in red also. the trim around the cup holder is easy. you take the cup holder out and then you take the other part of the holder out. the cup holder auctually has two parts. you can take the top part out for an easy clean. if you take the bottom part out of the console, you can just paint the entire bottom part. then you just put the top piece of the cup holder back in the bottom part and it looks like the trim is just painted. for the shift know you have to pull the top part off. i dont know if the ss sc had a different knob then the 2.4 though. i used a flat head screwdriver to help pry the top of the knob off. don't push too hard with the screwdriver, i just used it because i couln't get a good enough grip on the know itself.
