Painting Headlights

Ok before you flame I am not asking how to. I just want to know how much paint it took you guys to paint them. I did another project today and it took more than I expected. I am going to have one full can of color match from GM and potentially enought for a couple light passes. You guys think I should be ok?

How much did you use?

You're just doing the eyelids right? You should be good with 3 passes. I did that on my old car.

Nope, taking apart the assemble and painting the inside. Instead of doing black I am color matching

i used 1 1/2 of the color-matched stuff from GM (sounds like what you're using). Although, I did mess up the first time, so I had to repaint... 1 would have been enough if i was more careful.

I like them cuz they are different with the nightshade. It's a real good touch. I was gonna go clear corner, but then I realized that might actually stand out more since I am color matching Orange

I'd definately go with the nightshades on the side markers... that little bit of black looks so nice in there.

Hey guys, so Here I am... They are out of the car and they have been in the oven. But.... I CAN'T GET THE HOUSING APART. The silicon is soft and I can get a screwdriver in, But i can't pull or pry it apart. Anyone have suggestions? I do not want to install them back in my car without finishing this project

idk about the oven thing...i suppose it would work but when you pull them out the silicon will start to cool. use a hair dryer and keep it pointed in the high/ low beam entrance. then when you pry the pieces apart with a screw driver cut the siliconwith a razor. keep doing this for about half way down the light on both sides and then you can pry it apart by hand

I've heard alot of good with the oven. Maybe a combination of the two heat in the oven and then use the hair dryer. Thanks for the tip.... anyone else try this?

as far as I know the oven thing works... but you will need several screw drivers... leave them in as you move around the light... or it will reseal.

HEAT GUN!! seriously. spend the $20 and pick up the low-end one at home depot. works great. Other than that, yeah, flathead screwdrivers and razor knife. Try not to pry too far without cutting it off - you'll warp the headlight a little.
