Swapping trunks? Question..

Alrighty, so, I was wondering on how hard that basically "swapping" trunk lids would be.. I mean, buying one from a junkyard (or elsewhere), and using it on your own car.. That would include removal of yours (and perhaps the "new" one), as well as key hole exchanging, trunk struts, alignment, etc. I know that the light swapping is simple, but I've never done a full trunk before, only a hood.. Any help would be cool because I want to do this come Spring..

Thanks!

real simple you could even leave all that other stuff on just take off the strut and the 4 bolts holding it on. then you can just un plug the lights and plug em back in. dont over think it its really quite simple.

Anyone have a real how-to on the key hole? Pics or anything? I'm doing this on Saturday, and I don't want to waste alot of time.. I'm sure we can both figure it out, but I'd like to be extra sure..

idk if there is a how to but its really easy theres this metal "clip" sort of thing near the back side of the key hole it holds it in. you just pull that out take the key cylinder out and then once your done swapping put it back in and clip it back on.

I just swapped trunks last night within an hour. It was really easy.

For the lock, there is a metal clip. Look up under the lid at the lock area and you will see it. If you are looking at the trunk from behind, the clip will slide to your right. Just grab the big "handle" and pull right, and it'll slide right off. Then the lock will pull out from the exterior of the trunk lid. Pay attention to how the lock is installed. It has a long "prong" on the left side, make sure you insert your the same way. Then, install yours and slide the metal clip back in. It takes a couple tries to get it to lock in real well, just make sure there is no play in the lock and you are good to go.

Awesome. I'm sure that between both of us we can work it out.. haha

Any idea what kind of sockets or whatever you need to use for the trunk..? Anything off the top of your head..?

haha

Is ANYONE happy with their stock spoilers..???

I just find the low-pro so damn boring.. The posts that it stands on are also WAY too fat.. Plus, even if I don't like the high-rise, it's always easier to trade a high-rise for a clean trunk than it is to trade a low-pro for a clean trunk.. lol

its not that i don't like the look of my high rise, I just prefer the less "hey look at me" appearance of going wingless, plus i wanna know what it is like to see out my back window without a huge red line blocking my view lol

I'll check what socket is still on my wrench when I get back home. You'll need a shallow socket to get the bolt off of the rear bracket. I'll get some pics up here tonight.

Seriously though, if you can eat a cheeseburger you can swap a trunk lid.

Okay, sorry it took an extra day.

You can see the bolts that got the paint rubbed off of them from the rachet. You'll need a 13 mm shallow socket is all. There are 4 bolts, two on each side that holds the whole bracket on.

Those four are the only things holding the trunk on? Aside from that, you just need to remove the key hole and the harness for the lights?

The kid that I swapped with did this, but basically you just kinda feel your way through it.. Didn't seem too hard. I just need to allign the trunk properly.. It's a tad bit in..

^Correct

I switched out our trunks. Wasn't too terrible... Be sure to take out the latch to get the sensor off the trunk. That had me stumped for about 15 minutes
