So spent the day chasing knock.
First I fix the mount for the ic pump as it was missing a bolt at the bottom so thought it might be causing some false knock which it was see pic one. Took her for a spin and the knock was better down from 9 KR to 7-6 KR.
Then I was looking around and found a bolt for the intake manifold had backed out completly see pic 2. SOB. So I took a chance and just tightened that bolt, went for a spin still knocking but now between 5-6 kr.
So went home and took off the S/C and checked all the other IM bolts all were not very tight but not as bad as the first one. So tightend them all up and put the bitch back together and went for a spin now it only knocks wuth abot 3 kr i did have a spike of 5.9 but I hit a bump so that could be that.

once you chase these "mechaincal gremlins" down, I'd be curious how the Stage3 tune is... should you decide to swap back & forth...

Why the hell would you want to swap back and forth between tunes? No offense but this HPT tune will be far superior to the trifecta. His afr will be ramped making a huge difference in power.

curiousity.

Keep in mind that is not a "Trifecta" tune - that IS the GMS3 tune - but with A/C enabled.

I mean he could even have a second ECM setup to compare the two ~ he's paid for it, and it's there on Jordan's computer.
I am curious if the stage 3 was performing anywhere near where it should have after all these mechanical knock creators were found...

I am not saying that an aggressive HPT tune wouldn't likely come out ontop ~ but IMHO the GMS3 is pretty freaking cool - even if it does top out at about 26hp (on regular pump gas) or 300hp with a 50 shot.

From where I sit, I see alot of people blame tunes for what ends up being mechanical maladies.

There is no question something wrong with mikes car. We just logged and it's still knocking like a bitch. James keeps pulling timing and it makes no difference. When Mike let me run his car last year at Gimli there was no knock. I ran a 14.2@102 with the worst clutch slip you could ever imagine lol. If Vince could see Mikes afr to adjust it to not read 10.0 all the time, then yes I would agree, the tunes would be much closer to compare.

and this is exactly what I meant;
once the mechanical maladies are found, then we're Mike will be better off.

Has anyone suggested testing the knock sensor?
I might be jumping the gun here, but if things are being taken off the engine as an exploratory measure to find anything looses which might be rattling - then the next logical step might be to simply look at the knock sensor.
I've had a couple go bad on my Grand Am.

Ya we are talking about that they are only like $30. But keep in mind these ones if they go bad it throws a code, which I have not got yet. But for $30 why the hell not. Only think is the S/C and the Intake manifold has to come off to get to it, that is a bitch of a job. Anyways, I am driving myself nuts thinking about it.

there has got to be a full on diagnostic procedure for "phantom" knock (lets presume this is what you've got) - and a way to eliminate all other options...

So calling my dealership tomorrow to try to get something done about my rear brakes. Someone was saying there was a bulletin about rear brake issues. I bought the car June 6th and the safety sheet says they were in almost new condition.

I was wondering if I would be out of line asking for them to look at for free? Also have the blower making noise and wondering if I was sol there?

I feel like I get pushed around by dealers and older people cause I'm young and look even younger.

His front bumper is a melted pile of plastic haha.

If the inspection said It was in mint condition they better replace them that would be bs if they don't.

I have had my blower replaced 3 times between two balts. It's a common issue and as long as you still have bumper to bumper.
