So here's a tech question to debate today. Some of the guys and me were talking about work, and debating the idea of changing out my air filter. I have the K&N Typhoon intake system, and it has the filter that comes with the kit. NOw this filter is a bit smaller, but oddly shaped. What would be the drawbacks from going to a larger filter with the same flange diameter. Looking at going to an RF-3003 which has the inverted cone in the top, as well as more surface area and a uniform cone shape.

Has anyone done this yet on their K&N system? Will it throw codes due to me having a tune, or is that really just a myth from a couple years ago?

It definitely needs a good polish.

And I know you have offered lots, and the reason why I haven't modded a lot is I like to do other things like ice fishing. And that takes up alot of my time and money.

Evan, I would think that more surface area= more flow but you probably would need to be tuned to optimize the filter

i would assume k&n would have done the math.... i dont see it harming anything to try a diff filter...

Im not worried about harming the filter... its more the fact that they probably dont test swapping out filters on tuned cars trying to stay within a very tight set of parameters before throwing a code.

I will probably just try the filter, butt dyno it and see if it throws a code. If it does, ill do some datalogging and get a revised tune now instead of waiting till after the meth install. Its probably about time anyways, just hard to find a dry place to do a few pulls through 2nd/3rd gear.

edit: shifter has left quebec and is enroute. cant wait! although jon, when you ordered it, did you get the metal line clamp to replace the plastic stocker one? I didnt realize it, thinking i was getting everything when i made sure the new bushings came with it, but andrew ordered his last night and ordered the clamp extra. does it make much difference? or if i order it after i install the shifter, can i just replace the clamp thing without having to tear apart the whole thing?

I never got the metal clamp. It might help but I don't see it helping alot. You would need to remove the whole shifter to replace that clamp if you do buy it later

i dont think we should hide all that beautiful blue.... honestly it would depend on what the person wanted.... me i would do either a simple 2 tone, at least 30 diff colors, shades, and textures would look sick...... or if i felt crazy i would print a crazy in depth fractal on silver metalic using shades of blue, green and black inside it.... then these fractals would follow a die cut tribal line art through out the whole car.... it would create a ghosting effect with silver/green highlights through out the whole car...... and when you get beside the surface, you would see all the in depth art in the line art...

i like option 2........ i have already as i typed it, thought of 3 diff ways i could do my own car in this fashion.....

Although I can appreciate designs or whatnot, I like more understated monotone setups...

do you figure that's a printed blue over a silver, or that's the way it was ordered?

if you wanted a simple 2 tone then thats easy.... honestly jonathan you just need to look at my charts and pick the color.... leave the rest to me.... lol

i reread your post.... are you asking what color that is?

me and kass were talking about wrapping vs painting yesterday. cause the clear coat on the roof by the xm antenna is fading and almost ready to start peeling. so i want to do something with the whole car or just the roof

it is a good idea..... honestly there 100's of pigmented colors solid and metalic that all we need to do is laminate and install.... there more then 30 colors that come prelaminated..... all of these have a 7 yrs warranty.... they would probally good for more then 10 yrs at least depending how much sun it see's.... it makes for a great protection layer to conserve the original paint..... it is much more professional then plastidip..... what i dont understand is why some of the other members havent done stuff like wrapping thier car in rock guard or similar colors.... it would reduce paint damage for many many many years....

the best thing with vinyl is you dont have to get all wild and crazy..... not all of us are able to face that type of public attn....

No Mark we were talking about flat black vs a real paint job

I didn't know vinyl was an option to you.

In that case I know a guy...

What the conversation actually was, was why not paint the car, instead of just make the roof flat black.

What it comes down to is to paint the car is expensive, and mark prefers go fast parts

you're preaching to the guy who put more into his cobalt than he bought it for lol. to me speed IS everything. but the roof is the only troublesome part. maybe i'll wrap it in a nice shiny gold vinyl to match the charge piping. even though the piping is much less shiny than i wanted
